right - a hopefully final update -
The Ignitech ignition system and the XJR1200 carbs have allowed me to fit and calibrate a throttle position sensor -
I didn't expect to feel a difference but the machine is more responsive, and not so fussy about what gear I'm in.....fuel economy is up too...

this is a link to some software that will view the current ignition profile, and the ignition manual

We used to run a charger at the speedway on R40. We were always being accused of using racing fuel. The only downside of this oil was that it lacked the anti shear qualities of normal type oils so roller rockers and lifters were the way to go, to avoid galling and excess wear on the cam followers. It sure smelt the part alright!

A two stroke smell and my distinct recall of the benzine additive a guy used in his car were vastly different and non related.
It was an addictive smell that said " performance additive " to your brain...without even knowing what that was.
One of those instant  recall smells your brain has a way of adding to its memory library.

used to run my bugeye sprite on either 100 octane, avgas, or add a gallon of toluene to the tank and top it up with super (when super was super)
don't remember there being a "race smell" - that was the caster 2 stroke thing

Back in the day....Benzine added to a tank of fuel was an option for that race smell.
