From your photos, I'd say they are not OEM handlebars

Ok cool, I will gather a few snaps of other components to see what I've got going here.

Grant did buy the bike in bits in a poor state and has replaced tank and body work which I do have.

I'm sure other parts have been replaced with other models.

Thanks for your time Jonesy.  Cheers

I found that with the OEM calipers, Braided lines and a smaller diameter master cylinder worked very well
I used a 1997 Kwaka ZXR750R master - this is a modification and could be the start of something big.... :)

there you go  - sorry I missed your query

I should try to read the post more thorough. I will look into it although I was trying to keep things as standard as possible.  Cheers

Could somebody please confirm if the handle bars are standard for my model and I am aware 78's had round mirrors. Would these be off a later year. Yamaha is scribed or molded in the plastic.

Cheers

Despite what XS11.com says MM wasn't the only 78 colour as I distinctly remember mine being Silver when we un-crated it in the UK!

Very cool un-crating your own bike and imagine having one still in the crate in the pool room of course.

What colour engine did the UK models have?

Indeed and yes a couple of new 'uns in a crate would be nice - hindsight eh!

UK was black with polished fins throughout its lifetime, unless somebody corrects me on this!

That would've looked sharp in silver with the black engine.  Cheers

The Kwaka mc bolted straight on.. ..i had 5 fashion a bracket for the reservoir
This and the braided lines, and refurbished calipers worked very well... I recall locking the front up in a panic stop in traffic... the OEM. sytem would've let me crash I feel sure
The blue spot conversion will give you feel ... not the wooden OEM feel ... it's a good mod for sure

Cheers Bryan, any particular year model or a specific year? Do you remember what size piston? I did a similar mod to a 08 Trumpy Speed triple. From memory it was ZX6 or R1.

Fluro cheekless chaps with tassels ? ....i want a pair of those ...but not for riding the bike hahaha.
Nuff said  ;D
I m surprised you have nt seen orange DRL s or otherwise known as clearance lights.
A slightly different intent...but there as a visual indicator for everyones safety.....to be seen.
Every truck and caravan on the road has them. Not specifically mounted to the front of a vehicle but there for safety for other road users to identify the length and width of a vehicle for the driver as well.
DRL s as used today ...come on as either a headlight or park lights ...mostly white.
The usa xs1100 in 78 had the headlight hard wired to come always on with the ignition. There was an extra wire connected in the loom from the alternator and a relay which has caused a lot of confusion when looms are imported from the usa to use on our bikes here.
The xs1100 was very advanced in the day and took a lot of autòmotive cues in their design and function ...the designers thought out of the box when laying out the electrical as well as mechanical components.
They led the way for a year or two while other manufactures caught up.
I could be wrong...but i think in the day it was illegal to have more white lights .....other than your head light...at the front of your vehicle on together. Hence...the indicator clearance option bypassed this.
There was a uk member on here a while ago wanting to fit a pair of white lights in the style of indicators with bright globes to emulate DRLs. These cannot be randomly designed and fit as i tried to explain .The beamspread ....wattage and colour must be so that it does nt dazzle oncoming drivers/riders.
His intent was to be seen ....and not in a subtle way.
I think he had an issue with one tester when it came to registering his bike who saw the adaption as set to dazzle .
I don t think dazzling oncoming traffic is a safety point for the rider ...low level clearance with your low beam headlight seems to make more sense. But ...each to their own.

I reckon they could do with a few more.........

Cheers Jeff, yes every day's a school day. Thanks for the info, The terminology didn't click as I was thinking motorcycles. Since these discussions CL's are all over the shop like that unique vehicle in a particular colour you purchase then suddenly every bastard's driving around in one.

Hey Cinch,
You have Grants old bike, and before that it was owned by another mate of mine from lithgow. Back in the day it had the nickname "Pebbles" and back then it was very original and with the macho maroon paint

Unbelievable and a small world it is. Yes I did purchase off Grant and a cool bloke indeed. He christened it "The Pig" and did tell me about it's Mountain history. He does not know why it was named "Pebbles" and Jonesy if you could help. There is part of me that doesn't want to know!!

I've named her "Magnificent Beast" or "The Cougar" looks better from a distance or the light turned down, could do with a bit of work, been around the block a few times but still goes hard. I hope I haven't offended anyone!

I do love to know the history.  Cheers Jonesy

I was keen on keeping things mainly standard apart from the lines but seeing as they will not standard I may very well consider this.

Did the Kwakka master cylinder pretty much bolt on or was there any major modifications required?

Would you say there was a substantial improvement in performance over the stock set up?

Cheers
