Hey Steve,

I should've been more specific.

MM was the only colour for the XS1100 released in Australia in 1978.

The prefix numbers on the list are also pretty accurate (for Australia). I'm not sure about the UK colours so the list could need updating.

I have a 78 1/16 model bought in England that is silver.

2H9 = 78
2H9 = 79 (Magenta red and different decals)
3X0 = 80 (arguably the most desirable)
3X1 = 81
5N5 = 81 RH or the 5K7 S?
5H4 = 82 P (Nearly a unicorn when dressed in full regalia)

Cheers

Eddy

G'day Eddy

So would 78 be an E model as my rego paper has model XS1181A?

Cheers

G'Day Cinch,

see this link for the Oceanic numbers:

http://www.xs11.com/faqs/153-serial-numbersmodel-designationsfactory-colors.html

With the brakes there are a couple of options;

Blue spot caliper conversions (do a search on this list)

Braided lines will definitely make a difference.

After market rack.

I did see a post with Blue spot calipers fitted. So a custom mounting bracket is the only way to mount them?

Despite what XS11.com says MM wasn't the only 78 colour as I distinctly remember mine being Silver when we un-crated it in the UK!

Very cool un-crating your own bike and imagine having one still in the crate in the pool room of course.

What colour engine did the UK models have?

In 39 years of owning and riding my 78 xs1100E with front indicators illuminated...i have never had that issue...and saw them more as a safety feature...that "Did" catch on...and progressed to be what we now call DRL ...or otherwise known as daytime running lights...
As the road safety motto goes....be safe...be seen.
Whatever it takes for another roaduser to see you...is a good thing. I have never had the issue of another road user confusing my very bright flashing indicator for a dim lit always on indicator.
But if disconnecting them makes you feel safer...thats what is important to you.
It s like the guys who wear full robust leather outfits...who have regular accidents  ;)
They feel the need to wear them because they regularly have an off whilst riding. ;D
(Not pointing the finger at anyone BRYAN ).
It s also like the Hardly riders in all their cliche dress ups ...they don t want to wear a fluro vest ....but you can t deny...they look silly already...so whats the difference if they did or didn t ...besides they love to show pony with their unrestricted exhausts ...so why not highlight the circus act.
I could go on...but i feel iv e stirred the pot enough. Hahaha

Cheers Jeff, then you wouldn't approve of my fluorescent cheek less chaps, with tassels of course  ;)

But on a serious note I do hear you. We all know even with flashing lights n sirens some road users will still be oblivious and when you're on your bike you're on your own so you can't be reliant on no bastard.

I will re connect and see how it goes. The DRL you speak of is that hard wired headlights? and forgive my ignorance but what other make or model ran illuminated indicators/running lights with orange lens or globe.

Cheers

I found that with the OEM calipers, Braided lines and a smaller diameter master cylinder worked very well
I used a 1997 Kwaka ZXR750R master - this is a modification and could be the start of something big.... :)

Correct, MM was the only colour in '78, black engine with polished fins.
You have the '81 colour scheme tank.

Thanks again,

Yes confirmed

So I'm guessing Macho Maroon was the only colour option in that year? And did the Oceanic models have a black engine with polished fins?

I'll check that link and get onto those brakes.

Cheers Jeff,

2H9 it is. It's a 02/78. The previous owner who is from Black Heath formally Lithgow did purchase the bike from the original owner is also from Lithgow. Maybe somebody recognizes the bike.

I did think it was odd that the f/indicators stayed illuminated with the headlight on. I'm guessing this system didn't catch on as I can see the potential problem with other road users being conditioned to seeing an indicator illuminated and thinking you maybe turning. I have since disconnected the blue wire which isolates one element. What are your thoughts?

Thanks again for taking the time. Cheers

If the frame number and engine number start with 2h9 then you have an Oceanic model released here. The rack looks to be aftermarket...and the 2 front indicators have stop/tail globes which operate when headlight is on. Park position when selected by the key...should bring on the rear tail light and allow you to remove the key.

Thank you gentlemen,

Yes I am located in South West Sydney

Ideally I would like to do minor resto but am reluctant as the last time I stripped a bike for a minor clean up led to 2 years off the road and more money spent than I'd like to admit.

The brake system does need a serious overhaul. Ideally I need to take her to Laurie Aldertons to check alignment etc first as something is not quite right in the discs or rim. Then I'll add some braided lines and caliper kit etc.

In time the engine will be detailed with polished fins etc as well as the rims.

I do have a few Q's but am not too sure which topic on the forum I should use.

In a nut shell I would like to confirm Aussie delivery, identify a rack as either after market or factory and a Q about the parking/running lamp. That is a start as no doubt more Q's will arise.

Again Thank you for the welcome and offer.

Cheers Chich
