Done a bit more,, rear brakes good,, starter motor good,, forks good,, rear wheel good, has a lot of mud under the plastic housing tho, steering head free and smooth,,  T C I box good

Still to check swing arm bearings,  will pull the wheels out and inspect  any way

Have come up with a compromise on that Pete,,  Len has bugger all dosh left after having to get 3 trucks 2 tractors, mowers, forklifts and a few other machines going,
so  going on the theory that the oil filter housing and cooler had clean oil in them, will fill with a lighter oil and spin it  for a while,,
washing  it clean,,,let it settle for a bit, then run it for a bit,, then drain, remove the sump again, make sure that's clean,  then in the pursuing time drop oil and sump again and she should be right,,

Have talked to a lot of people with machines  since the floods, that's what they, 've done,,  dropped the water out and fill with oil, dropped it again,, because the engine wasn't, t run with watery oil they haven, t had any issues,,, and we talking big  earthmoving gear

will keep you posted

mate, you've got your work cut out for you,
I think you might need to tear that engine down,
to the extent u can get into the oil galleries to
clean them out.

I,ve started working on the old girl,  diff oil,,,,,good
                                                    middle drive,,,,,,good
                                                    starter motor,,,,,,,good
the rest,,,,,,,,not so good,,  the front wheel has all but locked up,, not sure wether brake pressure or bearing but am leaning towards brake,, the motor is my main focus at the moment,,
not having enough oil at the time after the floods, we drained the water out again and literally filled the motor with diesel, if nothing else to keep the internals sealed from the air,, after all it was salt water,

I must say it worked a treat, although after having "rinsed" the engine I still find this on all flat edges in the motor

I was a bit surprised to see the sump still full of the sludge after having that amount of diesel flow at that rate of knots out the drain,

the carbs I know are full of who knows what type of problems, my main concern was passed the carbs

the butterflies are damn near water proof :-*

these are the intakes

the same can,t be said for the exhaust ports, the photo doesn,t really show the valve stem with the crud on it

which is where the REALLY big dilemma starts,, if that amount of crap is on the valve stem,, how much is sitting on which ever valve seats that were open,, do we get it running and see, or do we take the head off and clean the whole thing,, if we,ve got the head off, how far do we go or where do we stop,

that it so far,,,                                              here,s a bit of a shopping list, nothing huge but if I can get some of it

we need, front master cylinder,, the glass is cactus,,
does some one have 2 plastic diff covers, I need one for mine as well  :-[
middle drive fill plug
2 bolts that hold the 3 piece handle bars together

the bikes not pretty, she just needs a bit of mechanical love,

dollars can be arranged if needed

i used a rh harness on the standard,
as ev said theres a cpl of differences in a cpl of wires
in the head light bucket, from memory the colour of the wires
are the same, but had different connections to it, and other than
the rlu on the standard every thing else fitted fine.

good luck with it geoff, uve got ur work cut out for u.

Hi Mate,
Actually, you could get away with standard harness. There's minor differences for sure, but they're certainly workable with a bit of patience.

as posted in one of the other threads, I do need a full wiring harness for her,, {excuse my ignorance but the std harness isn,t the same is it/, with the RLU and ballast risitor and such},, the reason the harness is cactus is when the battery went under it shorted, it would have caught fire except it was under water,, the rest of the wire has turned to a white crumbly mess

middle drive will be fine,, it doesn,t have a breather,, final drive is fine, it,s breather is blocked ::)

 as for spare parts,, hopefully I can get to most of the major components before any serious damage is done,, {rust or electrolosis start}

my diesel wash basin and glass bead blaster may come in handy for the bits I get to to late

Steptoe,

Are there any bits you need to ressurect this bike?

I'm sure that between all of us we could build several bikes from our spares.

Perhaps if you posted a list of parts needed.

regards

as has

[/img]

the oil filter still had clean oil in it, drained every thing again and is now sitting with a very full engine of deisel,, pots have gunk on top of them but has also been smothered in oil,
brakes are starting to go tight, they,ll have to be pulled down asap, starter motor has been pulled out and has a clean bill of health ,,

as the job goes on I,ll post how things are
