sorry for my absence over the last weeks, between lack of signal and at work and very short days off, but thats life right?
any way carbs have been ultasconic-ized, having trouble sourcing absolute complete carb rebuild kits,  front brakes have been sorted, brand new intake manifolds

have had a very interesting day working on the fuel tank, spent it electrifying it in a bucket of water to remove the surface rust inside, is working exceptionally well {another vid}

had purchased a set of pipes off Ryan with a B, but unfortunately they are a fixed set for a std frame and don,t fit on the RH, so I,ve used an old set of pipes that will work,

she is slowly getting closer to the end

today the Qld master of electrickery and jiggery came over and tricked and jiggered,
todays work consisted of chasing wires and joining miss-matched harnesses together, with a well placed phone call to Jeff, possibly the master of trickery and jiggery,
thanks Jeff for the advice to get the ball rolling and the rest sort of just followed
we have parkers, rear brake, nuetral light, oil pressure, and the high/low headlight wiring

my good mate Ev turned up today, {while we were out and about ,} and started on the old girl by himself,,

it,s what I needed,, a polite rocket,, so we hooked in and this is where we,re up to now

Ev on the blast cabinet

the stator windings, a bit of surface rust but all wires still read no resisitance, this bike never ceases to amaze, after what it,s been through

a quick blow over with the magic wand and it,ll be all clean
and end of play last night

a much closer look at every single bearing see,s all of them needing to be replaced, wheels, swing arm, head stem,, bugga

wiring harness has been removed for readiness for the new, but before that it,s off to the blasters for a new coat to replace the worn rusty look

the motor is all but finished,, so it,s into the frame and associated bits that swing off it,,

I have gained a new appreciation of the way Mr Yamaha protected his bike,, it,s hard to remember that this bike sat in muddy salty water for 3 or 4 days,,

I started with the rear wheel,, the axle as I pulled it out was still slick from the spray of inox it received last time, no sign of water, the splines and bearings are still coated with clean grease,, as you,d expect mud was caked on the outside of every thing but no egress

next was the drive shaft and swing arm,, same as before I was expecting water to have got inside the swing arm boot and have filled the bottom splines with mud, here it is

there is some very light rusting on the edges of the metal but was able to be washed up,, the grease also had some water in it but nothing to the degree I was worried about,

swing arm bearings were even ok,, I hadn,t played with them before,, they were full of old dirty grease and if they were anything else they,d be replaced but are still in serviceable condition, but no mud or water in them either,, the uni is cactus, wether from water or old age I,m not sure but has an enormous flat lock up spot and will be replaced

front wheel, head stem and brakes are next

I seriously do love these old bikes 8)

Hey Geoff, good work, and I'm sure old mate will appreciate your efforts.
Do you have a revised wish list of parts needed to get 516 finished?

it,s been a while, things have been ticking away slowly,
the motor has been stripped down cleaned up and almost put back together,, not a bearing or a seal has had to be replaced,
the head has been stripped and cleaned, some how 1 valve had a slight bend in it,, was able to be seated with a recut,
hopefully will be a complete again by the end of the w/end, am waiting for a new set of rings and it will be job done

that will be the engine at least, there,s light at the end of the tunnel now though

I replaced some bearings in my box and they where off the shelf at Saul's bearings on the coast these where the single row the others felt  and looked OK, the double row where expensive and an order job from some where, and also on different models they did away with the double row and fitted spacers instead this is where I got confused :o because I had the two boxes apart and 2 sets of bearings >:(
