Someone has to bring it up......so it might as well be me....
What thoughts and opinions are out there regarding an earlier date in the year that "MAY" provide an opportunity for better weather during the Rally.
I m sure it has to be on the mind of all that attended..... as they rode home on the Sunday or Monday.
It s surely worth a discussion............or as our politicians so succinctly phrase an issue.............."a conversation".
Soooooo......I m just gonna go sit in a dark corner now...... while you guys "politely discuss the conversation".

Three bikes left, Steptoe, John and me.
When I heard Steptoes bike trying to start, it got to the point of the battery about to give out when it fired, Steptoe and John (XS Runner) left and I was last, that is when I noticed that John's rear tyre was flat, I pulled him over and let him know then ran ahead and asked Steptoe if he had a pump, no was his reply, as he took off again, his bike sounded like crap spluttering and not clean, meanwhile, John had a pump and was pumping up his tyre, that was when I noticed the other John (Hen) pull up towards us, get off his bike and start walking back to the Highway, I initially thought he had lost something and was looking for it, that is when I noticed Tim pushing his bike and Lionel and Tom helping him, at this stage the rain hasn't backed off.
John pumps up his tyre I say for the second time to the Queensland crew see you all later.
Me and John ride on to Cowra and the rain is pissing down, we get fuel lunch and coffee in Cowra and I say goodbye to John as he is going to stay at a motel in Yass.
I get through from Murrumbateman to Queanbeyan and the wind and rain is blowing big time, I'm about 20kms from home and notice that I've done 200 k's since fueling up and the low fuel light isn't on, now that is quite rare for the RH, all of a sudden my right blinker turns on and everytime I push the button to cancel it it keeps going so I put the left blinker on and the right cancels, within a few kilometers the bike starts to starve and I flick the taps onto reserve and the bike runs O.K. again, so all that water caused a gremlin in there somewhere.

Without mentioning names, I just want to thank all the planners, the cookers, the washerupes, the helpers, the jokers, the story tellers and all the people that made it such a great weekend.

Hope to see you all soon ;)

Lou

Did the water fill the carbies. How did you cure it...drain all the juice?

I've found that my heated grips work even better when my gloves are wet. Transferring the heat much better.

Rode the entire way back to Melbourne in piss sis tant rain.
I swear by Pirelli Sport Demon tyres in the rain and dry.....have always prescribed to a compound that grips.....in the wet and dry.......I don t care about long wear .....it s all about staying upright.....albeit I usually get some 6 to 7,000 kms out of a rear tyre.
Never had any issue or confidence sapping moments. There was plenty of water all over the road.
Having said that...no tyre will keep contact if not riding to the conditions or road surface ....including "wet" white line marking ...mud...oil ..etc over the road.....or  braking too hard or over accelerating for the conditions.
Gotta get some descent weatherproof/waterproof boots.........as mine filled up nicely so that I "sloshed "when I walked into pay after fill stops.
Kept the toe of my boots pointed downwards on the bike ...so as they filled up they would drain .....and in a strange way the water actually kept my feet slightly warm ....had the air temp been 4 or 5 deg cooler it would have been a whole different kettle of fish.
Can t understand why someone has nt invented "vinyl over gloves " to slip over your leather gloves to keep your hands dry . Would be cheap and effective.
Gloves performed same as the boots .
Tanks for the good times guys and gals...had a hoot .

I was flabbergasted when I hit the deck I would have slid no more than ten feet. It was either that the tyres cooled off at the traffic lights or there was oil on the road.  Water on the plugs may have had a part to play in it because the engine was misfiring. Either way it was a big surprise.
