I'm happy with any date as long as I know with a fair bit of notice.

I only made it as far as Bathurst before the wind and rain beat me.

I stayed there overnight and continued on the following morning.

Still blowing a gale but at least the road was dry.

On two occasions, my heart jumped out of my chest when huge gusts blew me sideways a good foot and a half.

The front tyre maintained contact but the rear tyre and the trailer shifted.

I almost came off so I sooked out and surrendered.

I had a blast over the weekend as you all heard but other than that, I had a ball.

I'll be there next year.

There's something about these bikes that gets into your blood. No matter what disaster befalls us, we still love them, Tim being a prime example.

There's a camaraderie among XSives that I've not found anywhere apart from when I was in the Army, we depend on one another and freely give our time and effort to ensure our bikes stay on the road.

I'm proud to be counted among you.

Dan.

Just read Mr Steptoe's post What a Guy. You know some or most of those country people are what we should aim for.
Riding back into the Goldy at school time. Made me wonder why I live here. the next day I saw the ocean and I remembered.
Thank you so much to the Steptoe's for all they do. The wife still Can't believe what I paid for the only XS1100 mug for this Year I will post a pic of the bar soon

We have to fix this wet weather syndrome 8)

Someone has to bring it up......so it might as well be me....
What thoughts and opinions are out there regarding an earlier date in the year that "MAY" provide an opportunity for better weather during the Rally.
I m sure it has to be on the mind of all that attended..... as they rode home on the Sunday or Monday.
It s surely worth a discussion............or as our politicians so succinctly phrase an issue.............."a conversation".
Soooooo......I m just gonna go sit in a dark corner now...... while you guys "politely discuss the conversation".
Hey last Year the QLDERS rode down in rain and the same back and the year before the trip down was torential ??? I am cool with changing for Errol but the rest of you should put a bit of CEMENT in your tea or like me drink RUM :P( maybe not rum)

what a weekend,
our trip started with an enormous surprise 200klm in when we fueled up, 12.45 ltrs, that,s never happened before, and consecutive top ups,  it also wouldn,t rev past 5500 as said previously, but pulled hard up to that, but at that stage it didn,t bother me, we {I} decided to push limits again and see how far it,d go, 300 klm was Carabubulah, with no more fuel for some time and in went 17. something ltrs
we spent 3 easy cruisy days rolling through the garden, up hill, down dale, corners, straights and beautiful weather, the younguns hopped on the back to break the monotiny for them, and we rolled into Wellington after lunch thursday arfternoon,

slipped in and said g,day to the suppliers and gave them the financial assistance to release the stock for our weekend, even had the butcher with the cold room slip round to woolies so we could load the groceries in before dropping all out to the park, very sociable of him

then it was into preparing the weekends meals before the hoards rocked up, if anybody went hungry over the time, they never said anything and it wasn,t our fault,

the ride this yr was quite short compared to earlier yrs, just a quick jump over to an unpowered Gulgong, apparently a tree got tired and went to sleep over a powerline, so the whole town was closing doors, as we arrived. lucky for us the baker was still open so a few of us had pies, others waited till power was restored and had a feed in the clubs and pubs, the museum opened back up on Lou,s insistance so the whole trip wasn,t for naught

pig in the oven was Saturday night nibbles with a couple of side dishes, we tried a mainly xs11 themed trivia game after tea, and the ususal trophy awards,
jonesy had yet again out done himself with the trophies, and the special one for us, mostly Michelle for the organizing again, thanks mate,

                                                                    now to the projects

it was deemed a good idea that Tims bike would get a wiring harness transfusion, and wiring declutter witha  carb diaphragm replacement thrown in for good measure, looking back with 20 20 hindsight it probably wasn,t the best idea a group of grown men have thought of,, although nowhere near the worst either I,d be thinking. check out Andy's video
My bit was the carbs,  they went together well, although I couldn,t help myself and had to tear them apart just because you just can,t open them and shut them without checking, lucky because the enrichment tube holes were blocked, other than that they,re fine

the wiring however took some discussing and fiddling and with the rain towards the end I personally think it was suffering from the dreaded water ingress, Eddies tireless work and heckling from the peanut gallery saw it up and running, but then something went south and it stopped playing the game
Dan had his own issues with power and spark, blowing a baffle clear out of his pipes at one point, thats Dans bike with the smoke in Jonesy;s piccy, a couple of others come monday morning had starting or wet issues myself included

unbeknown to me my fuel cap well has a blocked drain pipe, which has lead to a significant amount of rain water dribbling into the tank at the filler cap, I don,t know how much but enough to make it run like a hairy goat with a cold, I,ve no idea how crap gets into the bowl of #3 running through the gauze at the petcock then in line filters and gauze at the bowl seat but it was more than enough to stop the seat sealing,
so there we are leaving Wellington in the rain with a motor running on water and a flooding set of carbs, all I could do was head for gulgong turning the fuel the fuel tap on and off to stop it flooding and running out of fuel whilst keeping the revs up enough to stop it dying,
once in Gulgong I found a dry spot under an awning and pulled the carbs off and drained and cleaned, reassembled and started it with no result, so I had to get serious, I needed a  closed servo so I had a concrete floor that I could park in the drive and completely dissassemble the entire fuel system. Luckily for me there was such a place down past the museum

this has once again concreted the idea of getting the barefoot hospital up and running

the owner lived next door, an old fella that has spent his yrs racing designing and working on cars and bikes, he opened up and turned on the compressor for air, gave me a line and gun and took off going about his own day again coming back occassionally to check if I needed anything like a really large flat and phiillips screwdriver,
so over the next 4 hrs I pulled the tank off, blew that dry, stripped taps, fuel lines and filters, pulled the carbs to bits and cleaned and blew them out, then he powered up the pumps and refueled the bike, all for a thankyou,, without that old guy I,d have been toast, I,d had to have walked everything 2 blocks to the local tyre shop that had air

after that everything was as it should be apart from the wet issue that dried out,  that will be sorted now I,m home, {another video}, and we toddled on home over another 3 relaxing cruisy days

thanks to all the fellas that turned up to make it what these rallies are, there is  some organizing to make it happen but it,s worth it, the organizing that you lads do to get there is also appreciated, even if Lou did leave his wets on the beemer

heres to next yrs with a few new members on here and fbook we,ll see what unfolds.

as for the weather it,s going to rain somewhere, it,s rained on the northeners for the last 3 yrs so I geuss it was the southeners turn this yr,
but yes the date can be changed for various reasons including to suit the work cycles of the site stalwarts, we,ve changed destinations to suit, we can change again

That is the first wet one in 4 years, normally Autumn rains are in early April, even the BOM said they were late, I'm all good with it either way?

Cheers

I believe there is a change of date in the air to enable Errol to come, so work doesn't get in the road, and I'm all for it.

As for the weather, it is what it is and builds character, a few years ago heading to Bourke  I had Ice on my gloves before I'd done 20 k's, but that's alright, I survived.
