Hi XTian,
I have been too busy to chase up the best deal on these yet but I am intrieged by your suggestion. I should be doing a little internet window shopping shortly to understand what is possible.

Would there be any takers if I ordered a few sets and any other bits needed.
Always better to do a bulk buy as far as postage goes.
Even from PartsnMore.
Maybe start up another board with an order list for the group???
What do you reckon?

G'day,
Thanks I did find them after I called the local Yamaha parts supplier to see about ordering in the yamaha product the guy I was talking too told me he bought some of Mikes shop for his xs650 8).
I had looked on there before but had come up empty. This time with the name of blind cap or just cap  :-\ I found them.
Have to do some maths with postage but that might be the one to go with for me.

I just called Yamaha head office parts and asked about getting these Vacumn caps. I found the ones sources so far to be a little flimsy.
The guy said they should have the cap and also a clip. They have been superseeded several times aparently and he gave the current part numbers as
Blind Cap 16G-13569-00
Scissor Clip 90467-10039

After a quick look I found some suppliers pics
Blind Cap http://www.cmsnl.com/products/plug-blind_16g1356900/
Scissor Clip http://www.cmsnl.com/xs1100sh-1981_model8834/clip-3g0_9046710039/

I will hunt around for the best price and let you know how I go.

Bretts,, your probably better off using spring clamps if you can source them,, a zippy tie won,t keep squeezing when the rubber is hot and becomes a touch loose, and may let small amounts of air thru

Hey Melb
any experience withe Super cheap "champion" brand in the pic? They are much thinner walled than the originals, Was thinking of a zip tie for added security. @ $4 a pack and the frequency at which they will be removed fo synching the carbs it wont matter if I have to cut it and the zip tie off.

I found those repco ones soften up a lot when the engine is hot. They then pop off.

Maybe these are the right size.

Thanks Jonesy. The local repco store said they did not have them I said yes but repco sells them don't they could you order them in?
He agreed  ::) but they don't have the right size.  :-X

If the ones that I orderd don't do the job or I haven't been to orange in the meantime it would be great that you could bring a pack over.
Talk again before then  ;)

Hey Brett
I got them from super cheap, 5mm jobbies, if your local repco hasnt got'em I can bring a pack up in september, you might have to run with your crimped hose set up till then?

Oh did you buy from Rare spares? I had a little discussion with them about the postage and they would not budge from the $10. They give some silly reason that they send by Australia Post but get a courier to take it from the factory to the postoffice. Sounded like bull to me or at least a very silly way to do business so I decided to go elsewhere. It was hard to find another but since I had a temporary solution I ordered these from America. Thought the extras might come in handy.

Edit: I notice these are not an uncommon feature on new bikes either so I don't see why they should be hard to get. It might be worth calling Yamaha or any of the current bike manufacturers and asking where you get this part from!

Hey Brett
your question where to find these has turned out to be good timing for me. i was putting some very hardened brittle old caps on the 581 rebuild and split one....so now I know where to get some

You ll find them at Repco as well......usually hanging on the rotating blister pack stand.or where they hang those in the shop.
Along with checking the vac from the carby ........make sure the ends of the vac line have nt gone hard or are perished anywhere.
When you take a look at your valve clearances you ll need a shim tool to replace the shims.
They are on ebay and are quite cheap.A magnet helps to remove the shims you may need to replace.
Check the measurements against the Matrix chart in any manual for the new size shim needed if any.
Replacement Shims can be swapped or bought ............just ask around on here first

I got a packet of 20 for about 15 bucks at Supercheap Auto. They ordered them in for me. I'd send 4 up to you but all my gear is packed in hundreds of boxes while I build my shed and theres no way I would find them.
