Yep it is always a good idea to do a clean run answering in the most positive manner just to see if you are being penalised for anything. It may be something you adjust  ;)

Just to make it more complicated. When I got a car green slip in NSW, I was getting charged an extra $200 as I had lost points on my licence. When I said my wife drives it with no lost points on her licence, I got the discount. Dont know if this applies to bikes but will check it out when its due.

Sorry I forgot to mention that is for South Australia.  We have no choice for insurance it's all handled by RMV.

I finally managed to get a job done that I'd been meaning to do for the past couple of years. I got the bike mod plated as a solo. I'd been looking to do this as Neriel hasn't been well enough to come on the bike for over six years, so it has just been a vacant space on the seat since then. I finally beat Neriel to the mailbox and pocketed the rego renewal notice (the last 3 years, she paid the rego on the day the notice came, while I was at work) and set about getting the police solo seat fitted.

^ I also refitted the towbar temporarily to justify not having to remove the pillion peg mounting points (some inspectors are very particular on this matter) Not in my case though, he was a really good bloke.

^ Trying to avoid having a huge gap between the rear of the short seat and the base of the rack, it made a natty place to stow my jacket on the warmish ride to the inspection station.

^ Jeremy (inspector dude) also very kindly mounted the mod plate up on the rear subframe, as he had an aversion to drilling holes in the main frame tubes, so it will be mostly hidden by the original dual seat when I fit it later today for appearances sake.

Took the bike in to the DMR office to get the final paperwork done and pay my new solo registration.

The bottom line.
2 seat registration costs including the dreaded CTP = $420 per 12 months
Solo registration costs including CTP = $229.80 per 12 months

No usage restrictions at all. Just no pillion passengers.

I'd only discovered the huge differences in intrastate bike registration regulations while chatting with Jonesey at the rally last year. One of the main reasons I had the trailer in tow was that I had bought this seat down in it to offer use for anyone wanting to get their bike plated and save a heap on rego, but after learning that in the other states, it has no bearing on costs, it was quickly forgotten about in the XSiveness at the time.

Here's a previous thread about the seat - CLICK

Don't forget to check the RTA green slip price calculator http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/ every time you renew as the cheapest changes from year to year.

+1

Never, ever simply pay the renewal.
ALWAYS use the MAA page to fidn the best price.
The policy is the same, by law.  The insurers rely on our lack of attention and willingness to just accept the shit they, and the government, feed us.

cheers

I got a great deal from QBE today, $333 for the green slip. That was over $100 cheaper than the others and what I expected from last check.
Don't forget to check the RTA green slip price calculator http://prices.maa.nsw.gov.au/ every time you renew as the cheapest changes from year to year. Very seldom will I stay with the same insurer each year. I am sure they expect many to just pay what turns up in the mail.

I'm working on a "cunning plan" (i.e. she doesn't know about it yet!) to put my G model back on the road on club plates as it's over 30 years old now - won't have unlimited use but at least it'll keep the wheels turning and I can take SWMBO on certain Club runs whereas at present I have to take the Wing if she wants to go - and that's a little out of place amongst the "restored motorcycles"!  ;-)

Hey Bro,
and here I thought we were doing it hard in Victoria at $437 total  :P which includes the $50 charge for "Motorcycle Safety Initiative".
Haven't quite figure that charge out yet. The cage drivers still don't see you and if they do they ignore you. Some education program thats been!
We buried  :( another of our Club Members (Patriots Australia) only a week ago when some halfwit in a cage decided he didn't have to share the road with a bike.
 >:( Eye for an Eye, let him say 'I just didn't see him' when I'm in my Road Train.
