Here s an update on my Electronic/vacuum cruise control .
It s the "Bees Knees" ...after 7-8 yrs of not having to hold 4 CV Carbs open on long runs ...maintaining set speed on flat and up hill roads and against headwinds it s makes the riding experience all that more enjoyable and safer due to less fatigue.
The benefits certainly outweigh the cost. :)
Here s an updated link to the kit suitable for the xs1100.

Here's my cheapo version of a cruise control that believe it or not, works really well,  a  fat 17mm bolt and accompanying nut cranked into each handlebar end,  it very slightly and evenly spreads the bar diameter and gives the throttle a slight drag,  still slick and smooth but sits at any position when you let go, lets you sit at any speed,  i often just lean forward and get comfy with both hands resting on the tank and ride no-hands on the long boring straights.  Also acts as a vibe damper

Mate, I've got one on my Special which is very similar to this one here - Clickaroo!

Fits snugly between the grip and the switchblock.Just had to trim the outer edge of the grip at that end to make it work seamlessly. Great for giving your arm a spell on those long trips though I don't recommend trying to adjust it tightly for prolonged use as it could jam the throttle in position if you have to do a panic stop. This is why they tried to ban the things in the first place.
I picked mine up from Powercycle Suzuki in Virginia Brisbane. It is a generic unit and from memory cost about $20 in 2002
Can get a pic if need be.

One thing i keep coming back to ,  is how much i d love a descent throttle lock or cruise control.Any one out there adapted/invented/converted/bought/stolen or seen anything that not only works well but looks ok..? Are there any that have full functionality.........such as set/resume..........touch brakes to cancel?...............Saw this one on ebay...http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEP-MOTORCYCLE-CRUISE-CONTROL-YAMAHA-SINGLE-CABLE-TYPE-/200494402661?cmd=ViewItem&pt=AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eae65cc65......Checked the specs on it.and....nope won t fit xs 1100
