I ended up purchasing a new bearing as well. Dimensions are identical but cost around $60 to my front door. They had around 7 in stock when I purchased mine. From 123Bearing, code was 848240000. If anyone is interested.

if it's any help - this knaffed bearing from my parts machine is the NA5904 part - water damage is the issue
I'll be fitting the new bearing to match

Yes, thanks, but I'd already found that info.  What would be interesting is to be able to compare the same data for the OEM bearing, which is certain to be impossible to get.

sealed too, bonus!
I work on the "edges" of the bearing industry too (condition monitoring/vibration analysis), unless there is a difference in material hardness I can't see why the alternative wouldn't be up to load requirements

Unfortunately no.   Long story short, it was on the list to be acquired but was low priority and at the back of the queue (also, I didn't really need it at the time)....then COVID happened and things just got worse.     We did find some load specs for the F-24303 bearing but there's nothing available for the OEM type so hard to compare.    They are a similar design so that's promising.

Still plan to get one when things settle down, I don't mind giving it a bash (so to speak....).

Hi mate. Did you go thru and try the replacement bearing you mentioned?

LHS Rear Wheel bearing....possible alternative
« Reply #1 on: January 22, 2020, 09:39:23 PM »
I will be replacing all the bearings in my RH restorer as a matter of course, but I'm aware that the LHS rear wheel bearing is 'problematic' in terms of availability of the OEM part.   Alternatives are mentioned here:

http://xs1100.com/forum/index.php?topic=5334.0

.....but a friend of mine that works in the bearing industry has suggested another alternative.   It's used in printing and similar machinery, is designated F-24303 and has the right external dimensions.  Some info here:

https://www.inabearing.net/INA-brand-roller-bearings-20x37x23mm-F-24303-2rs-pd40358927.html

We're still chasing specs, but there are suggestions on other forums that the original bearing is only 'lightly' loaded so the F24303 bearing might be a suitable alternative.    No idea of price yet.
