Welcome in Ri Gar
Sounds like you are fluent in bike maintenance and not in the too distant future should be riding the roads around Darwin

Hope so mate

Might be a slow build though in its condition

Hi Budgie ...to remove the tank liner....fill the tank with Acetone and leave it soak for a day or so.

Thanks mate I'll try that one

Hello and thanks for the addition

I'm in Darwin NT.

I have recently bought a standard 79 model.

It is quite knocked about from previous owners.

At this stage I have the engine out with it pulled down. The pistons and bores appear to be quite good, a new set of rings to go in. Hopefully it doesn't have gearbox troubles but won't know until it goes back in.

The brakes are having a complete overhaul. New stainless braided lines throughout, new front master, and kits through the rest.

The carbs had two with float pin posts broken off and another with the body broken. I have sourced another set to make a good set .

Thinking I'm going to put some k&n pods on and some dynojet jets to suit.

The tank has a liner in it which is coming apart and some body filler covering dings. I've tried methyl ethyl ketone(PVC primer), thinners and paint stripper. About 95% has came out but there are some stubborn thick bits at the bottom side of the tank. If anyone has done this I'm  after some advice if anyone has had to get a liner out ??????????????????????????...?????????????????

The seat pan was rusted out so have sourced another one.

The first attempt was a fail with a "79 model special" seat being sent.

If anyone is chasing a seat for a special let me know

Hopefully I won't ask to many stupid questions as this is my first XS
