However! Moved on to air filter this evening...........a whole lot of white flakes and dust on what I think is the wrong side of the air filter i.e the outside. Seems PO tried to use some compound to obtain a better seal around the air filter and the housing which has dried, hardened, flaked and crumbled into the chamber around the air filter cartridge. I haven't worked out how to insert an image, which is probably for the best as it may make some of you tear up. (like a picture of an abused child or something)
Anyway as I have previously stated the old girl starts like a dream and seems to run fine. (so far) My only hope is that whatever this stuff is, it has gone through burnt up and been expelled through the exhaust.
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to discuss the naivety of my hope, and to talk about possible ramifications. My mission is to soldier on, clean out the air filter and then move on to the next 'little job'.

David

p.s thanks Xtian for the welcome pack.
