Thanks folks for the responses,

I used Timbos suggestion from Mal.

Initially both broken tips were protruding from the body.  I used Option one but I bent those so resorted to the dremmel on slow to "flatten" the bent tip.

I used a $14 portable blow torch to heat up the part of the carby imprisoning the broken tapered tip from the brass air mixture screw.

Used liberal amounts of WD40.

I then resorted to option two, used a Kingchrome 90 degree pick with a pair of multigrips.

I used gentle persuasion and they 'popped " out.

Job Done.

Thanks.

Next job to get the carbs cleaned.

Hello Christian,

As I have mentioned before, you normally only get one shot at removing the broken pilot screw.

I can try to get it out if you want to send the carbs to me.

The removal options are;

1                     If the needle point is sticking into the venturi. Spray WD40 into the pilot screw hole and around the needle point. Then  heat the area around  the needle end with a heat gun to spit hot.  I have a solid round bar ( about 150mm long ) which is 5mm smaller diameter than the venturi which I put into the throat area, almost touching the butterfly valve. Sit the carby upside down on the diaphragm housing. While the area is hot from the head gun, tap the side of the bar with a hammer straight down onto the tip of the needle. Do not tap too hard as this will bend the end of the needle over. Do this process a couple of times and hopefully the needle end will come loose. Make sure the pilot screw has been removed, before starting the process.

2                     If the needle is level with the venturi or recessed in. I normally rub the area with wet and dry paper to make the end of the broken needle as flat as possible. I then have a right angle scriber which I rest against the end of the needle. The process I use here is to put a shaped block into the area opposite the needle. After heating and WD40 as in the previous method, I use a lever between the end of the scriber and block to push against the needle end. Doing this method you have to be very careful not to slip on the end of the needle, as this will damage the body, and enlarge the hole making mixture adjustment less accurate.

3                     The last resort method.  I have a sleeve that fits snugly into the pilot screw hole which has a 0.8mm drill hole through it, and I sit the carby in my drill press and drill out the needle end. I normally only use this method if all else has failed.

Regards,

Mal.

Eddy.....I ve tried a couple of ways...it depends on trying a number of different methods till the lil focker gives in.
The issue with attempting to push the tip back out is that it easily bends over and causes more of an issue.
My recall is if all else fails........use a .5 mm drill down the centre the air mixture screw that snapped it s tip......then screw that in to use as a guide and go light and easy....drilling at the frozen tip.
Check out the inside of the carby where the tip protrudes through ...as I ve seen the hole flair out because of the pressure put on it.
What type of mixture screw/carby is it....of the 2 types used on our bikes ?
The air mix screw that recesses the head and has a cap over it ?....or the screw that has the slotted head sitting above the carb body ?

my first go to is a paperclip with a sharp bend and a fine point one end, and/ or/then compressed air, maybe some spray lube of some sort,,

failing that,,,,,,,,, you da man with the knowledge,, a wee bit of plastic and friends may dislodge said tip also

Hi Folks.

I'm in the process of reconditioning a set of carbs.  During the strip down I discovered two of the air mixture screw tips had snapped off in the carb bodies.

Does anybody have any tips on how to remove the snapped off ends?????????

Cheers

Eddy
