ok XSIIE and Eveready's  posts may offer an opportunity to swap out  heres some pics of the loom at the head light bucket and exstenions to the outfit see what you can make out of it

I'm thinking the connector blocks have been changed  ,on another note on closer inspection of the bike whilst rigging up a water resistant connector for the neutral wire mode I found a heat senor  tapped into the back of the sump pan  the light on the guage works but no temp reading and hints on the wiring run maybe a dropped connector somewhere

Tim, as Steptoe attested, it's a very time consuming procedure.
I did the swap on mine through neccessity some time ago but it took about a week to get it sorted. (I had a full head of hair when I started, too!!)
Just out of curiousity, can you get some photos of the connector blocks where the instrument wiring plugs into the main harness?
As yours is an 80G, it should have originally had the square guages on it, and it would show if either your main harness has been changed, and the guages swapped to suit, or there's been a mini adapter loom added, or the wiring has been murdered using a shi*load of bullet connectors to lace it all together.

You could get a standard loom from joes motorcycle wreckers in Canberra, replace the loom (plug and play) and put in squares.

Sounds like a good Worksop day in Wellington?

We could get the bits between us and marry them up in the car park or next to an undercover barbie.

Thanks for your wise words Steptoe  ,I've  thought it through looked at the wiring and figured  there maybe 2 or 3  looms running through the bike   so rounds it is

Ev has done something similar, very time consuming and need your wits about you as not to set fire to anything,
we were going to try fitting existing RH rounds to  donated std wiring harness with the flood victim but went with a set of squares to suit, far to hard and not enough time,

if doing for the hell of it, leave as is, yours is a 78 any way no? might find the menagerie of wires is to set the rounds up, pull all that off and you might be able to plug and play

Hi all  as the tittle suggests  I've  procured a set of square clocks off a 78 the idea is to swap them out  with my round ones  this will be a time consuming task working off 2 sets of wiring diagrams
the fuel sender units between the square and round clocks vary  the rounds have a single light  my thought on this is leave the sender unit as is and just rig up an extra light on the dash some where
so before I start  making  a mess  has any one done this mod and have any advise/diagrams   of  the swap
