might pay to check them forks are still straight.
witness mark em (a discreet center pop mark on the fork leg(s) in relation to the lower triple clamp slot) first before you pull em out to do the rolling on a flat surface check.
If they're ever so slightly bent you can put ém back in to the witness marks and all will be fine.
If you put em back in any old how they will bind up......dont ask me how I know........ that XS had very quick steering ;)

After hitting a dog maybe they shoud have given you a Rabies shot Errol.  ;D ;D ;D Glad to hear you survived OK. Age and experience may have been a factor in that.

Paul, the really hard bit to digest is that the centrestand doesn't seem to have a mark on it, yet I've scraped it in the past just cornering, neither does the muffler which usually will cop a knock if you lay a bike down??

I'm thinking that maybe the rear wheel was off the ground at the time the header touched down???
That'd make a crazy picture!

to scrape those headers and sidestand the bike must have gone mental and you were just along for the rodeo ride

Paul, to cut a long story short, running along country road at about 80k's (100 zoned), a dog about blue heeler size darts out of a driveway and straight into my path. Only had time to brace before hitting it. Got in a massive tankslapper  and I thought I was gone, but the bike miraculously straightened itself up but was now off the tar and headed for the fence.
I'd got a bit of control back by now so I guided it back towards the tar. I'd knocked the killswitch off so I flicked it back on then turned back around to assess things.
End result was the dog died within about 20 seconds of me pulling up, and there were some scrape marks from my bike left on the bitumen. My gearsack back was laying halfway across the verge opposite where my bike had headed so the bike must have had some crazy attitude just after the hit. I'd also dislodged the throttle lock and both mirrors had been knocked skew-wiff by my forearms during my wrestle with my freshly refitted RH bars, and my right thumb hurt.
That's the closest I've ever come to crashing a bike without actually hitting the deck.
Git home and tightened up the mirrors, refitted the throttle lock and hosed the mess off the front wheel and pipes in preparation for the ride to Bellbird for our gathering but my thumb was hurting more as the evening went by. Geoff rang me and offered to take me with him in the car instead so that was one decision made easily.
After getting home Saturday, I mosied up to the horsepiddle for a checkup and the initial diagnosis is a broken thumb, or scafoid. Scans tomorrow am will confirm.

Q?? Why do they give you a tetanus shot if there is no broken skin??

Was great to see everyone again.
Bit of an update on my dog encounter, Geoff an I had a quick look at the bike once we got back to my place and the main battle scars seemed to be just a bit of a scrape on the sidestand, which to me, seemed a bit odd due to the marks left on the bitumen

But further investigation today with my hand feeling strong enough to risk getting down on the floor revealed some extensive scarring on the side of the header pipe and heatshield

That's a bit more in line with what i envisaged hitting the tar.

I still am feeling quite lucky to get through that encounter with a busteed thumb. Could've been a lot worse.
I'll try to get some clearer pics once the weather clears a bit.

Merry Xmas everyone!

Yep, Great fun....and informative. (Steptoes birthday this week!), Great Company, food & coffee.

A window in the BOM kept me almost dry both ways.

Don`t forget those Chrissy presents are only good for today. (25% off).

Hey Tim did you sight any Pink Pig on the way home?

Really great that as far as the Gold Coast and Bundaberg the XS crew didn`t bat an eyelid at the prospects of Thunder, Lightning nor Wind warnings!
......XStasy does that!
Cheers,

What a great day I had  ;D
Headed off from home at about 7 am to get to Bryan's only one stop to put the wet gear on, then after a vote we took his car on the next leg  ;D
It was great to catch up with some of the SEQ members, spoke about many things including engine miss firing in extreme wet weather :-\ looked at wiring diagrams
( thought about ringing Eddie).
I spoke about my Shed envy problem Mrs Steptoe spoke about her shed problem  : :( . then a bite to eat more talk about interesting stuff, then the Goodbyes
Great car trip back to Brisvegas  then on with the wet gear a quick stop for fuel and home by 545 pm
What a day cant wait for May. : 8)

MERRY CHRISTMAS to all from hen
