I have both a xs1100 and a xs650. I can try to put the xs650 tank on my xs1100 frame if you want to see how it would look? Although Im not sure if it would fit. Let me know.
Cheers

The tank in the Gumtree ad looks to be an early Virago tank.

Mate, if you're after a tank for your XS, it'd be easiest to start with an XS tank so you don't have to mees around getting it to fit the frame mounts.
The Special tanks are the same as the RH's

And are a dime a dozen in the states, as they're all hunting for the big Standard tanks like we have over here, but only came out on the Venture model over there for one year. postage might sting a bit, but that'd be the quickest way to get one.

Actually, have a look on the dotcom site and check out their member Andreasweiss, He's got a bike wrecking business in Canada, and his prices (particularly his shipping costs) are very reasonable. Only hiccup is that he doesn't take credit cards, or EFt's so you'd have to sort out a cheque for payment.
But he's a really good guy to deal with, I've used him a few times now, and have been very happy with my purchases from him.

That is a much more stylish tank in my eyes than the standard! Not that the std's ugly per-se, they fit the standard form well but possibly a little bulky for my plans.

Although, there has been one used on a Honda cafe that worked out alright, check this out;

I ordered a really good looking hand tool metal shaping DVD from the UK Friday in the hopes of learning some new skills there, but i'm thinking in the meantime of going fibreglass. That means I can shape foam or clay perfectly to fit the bike and styling in my head and be able to do it at home without a fortune of tools too!

I will check it out, thanks Eddy :) Sounds harder to find than a 650 tank already though lol But promising for fit if they're similar!

Have you looked at the fuel tank from an XS1100 RH?

I believe it tis similar if not the same as an XS 650 tank.

Hey gents,

Been doing some picture searching and I think I might be looking at an xs650 tank for my cafe 11 project.

Smaller size appeals to me aesthetically and should help with clipons, and also the rounder, more classic shape seems more where i'm thinking style wise...

Problem is, in Coffs Harbour there's not much around to touch and eyeball.... And the local wrecker is just useless...

Thought i'd ask on the offchance, does anyone have or have access to an xs650 fuel tank, who could possibly take some rough measurements for me before i bite the bullet on getting something online?

Even better, anybody have one? This might be pushing it!  :P

I have two '79 STD 11 tanks i could offer as a trade, or just cash - whatever works!

I realise it most likely won't bolt on, nor fit without modification - but better to start cutting on something closer to what i want than trying to re-invent the wheel cutting on the std 11 tank.

Thank you kindly!
