Bike won't turn off. Ignition and kill switch.

Thank you to everyone. I disconnected the ballast resistor and then it jumped into life momentarily. After a bit of soul searching and a lot of help from Excess on the phone, we traced the other fault to the kill switch. I've just hooked up a new leftswitch block using the horn button from a second right hand block and have given it a paint. Here goes nothing! I'll keep you updated.

Eddy, lokoing forward to getting it. It'll be nice to get to the point where there isn't a question mark over the electrics lol

Hey Raf,

I just cut the old fuse box off and then fitted the connections provided with the fuse.  It was then a simple case of just plugging it in.

And best of all it looks original.

I got one of those fuse boxes too Eddy. Thanks for the link. Did you just cut and solder the wires before the box or is it possible to solder them in to the fuse holders? Want to keep it as original as possible right!!?

Sorry for the delay. Been flat out but today I plan on making progress.

It would appear I'm not getting any voltage to the small wires (red/white blue/white) going into the starter solenoid. I know the starter solenoid works anyway as it starts when i arc it. I also know that when I put the red/yellow to the battery the starter button works.

I changed over the TCI and there was no change as was suggested in the forum and the ballast resistor is still in place. What is the job of the resistor? Should I try swapping it out?

Too late. Bike was 160km from home so hooked it up and hit the Kyogle-Brisbane rd today. Seems I hit every storm lol. Hope no one got smashed in this rain.

Bikes home now and in the workshop so will take my time. With it. I'll swap the TCI as well as the right hand switch block. The fuse box has seen better days too so will replace this at the same time. Does anyone have a recommendation with this. I will keep it standard and have seen the ones for sale. Suppose I'll need to solder the new one in.

The red/yellow wire should "Not" be connected to the battery side of the solenoid. When wired correctly it provides "temporary" power to the TCI unit whilst the starter motor is being cranked.......after which that power disconnects on "Run".
By having this cable incorrectly connected permanently  supplying power to the tci you may of overheated and damaged an internal component .
DO NOT CONNECT THE RED /YELLOW wire TO THE BATTERY CABLE AT THE TCI UNIT.
Do you have a spare "known working " tci unit to swap over?
Do you have the ballast resistor in cct or is it removed with the 2 wires joined together ?

Nothing that will help unfortunately. Was riding and it felt like a fuel starvation issue. Power on, power off etc. came to a stop and checked fuel .. In hindsight it appears it was losing electrics. Tried to start and there was nothing from the start switch. I hard wired power and shorted across the solenoid. That got me home.
The solenoid is fine and I've just checked the starter and the kill switch. They're fine. This is also confirmed when I wire the red yellow to the battery side of the solenoid the start button works. Only problem is I can't stop the motor now lol

Why where the wires not connected properly is there more to the story you should start at the beginning

Test to the 2 smaller cables attached/soldered to the body of the starter solenoid to see if your getting power to it whilst pushing the starter button. If you have power there you have a faulty solenoid coil. Get back with the result so we can carry out further tests.

Ok. I've attached it to the correct side now but the only way to get the starter to crank is by shorting the solenoid. Sounds like a dodgy starter button or kill switch right?  Even after the bike cranks over it won't keep running because it's not getting power through full time

Red/yellow goes to the same terminal that the larger starter motor cable attaches to on the starter solenoid.
If you have it connected to the large positive cable terminal on the starter solenoid that comes from the battery......... you will be permanently feeding power into the TCI unit.
