Just a suggestion good place next year in winter for a rally 8) only problem car and truck drivers, may be a good fuel economy test for Bretts :P

The only fatalities I can see ..........may be a "Grey Nomad " or two towing their van north ... having a heart attack at the wheel...... when someone passes them at double/tripple their speed. :o

They may have survived if they had helmets or if they new how to drive properly.  The speed limits came about because of a Labor Govt finally getting in and doing a deal with the feds!!!

I think they bought in the speed limits after the Cannonball run where those 2 Japanese drivers were killed in their Ferrari F40. Apparently that would not have been a Fatal if they had been wearing helmets.

About bloody time someone started using common sense.  I lived up there for 17 years in the days when it had an open limit and I must say it's an absolute joy to be able to cruise at any speed on the XS or in a car without having to worry about being pulled over. It makes the long distances more bearable when you can slip along at 160/180 kph and the XS loved it.

PS:  when you come up behind a road train (3 trailers) doing 160 and then you can legally accelerate to whatever speed you like, it makes for safer motoring as you are back on your side of the road much quicker!!!
