Ahhh...Mate!  That would be sensational! Really, Really looking forward ta catching up. (I`ve been planning a bundy trip for awhile too!)

I`ll cut & paste 2nd episode of me trip (assuming no one`s getting bored yet- from the fj forum shortly) - not sure if you tube video link will transfer, but gunna give it a go!

Fixed a niggly faulty speedo yesterday. The speedo cable worked when we rolled her backwards down Retro`s driveway. Swapped with his speedo and she still no go! Then a brainwave said let`s double check the cable when it`s driven in the forward direction?...bingo!...she no turnie!.   Fault was in the drive bracket thingy that had been hacked about by previous owner. Flattened her straighter with two different socket sizes and a big hammer!... Learnt a lot about the leading link front end...I`d hate to have ta fix a flat on the side of the road with this design. Definateley have to take off the calipers to get the front wheel off. (I think we figured Retro`s needed the disc also removed - just to take off front wheell!)

Bought her off an 86 year old gentleman suffering from dementia. Purchased through his long life friend Geoff Higgins (Higgins Sidecars). He put a 1200 block with wiseco pistons + Head ported. Shiney Chrome headers when I left went to shiney blue/black pretty quickly....the prev owner only drove it with his pet dog occasionally...I am concerned she might be running a bit lean...don`t know if main jets were upgraded for 1200 mod.
Looks a lot rougher than in the pics but is perfect for what I need.

Really worried about getting her through queensland rego without engineers cert for back wheel mod (VW with Yamaha centre) nor leading link forks....but we`ll get there.

Though I had a 27 day permit to get her from Vic to Sunshine Coast, it isn`t legal to take her to the roadworthy guy without aditional 3rd party insurance cert. He is in the south direction from my place...anyhow bought the insurance...so I may as well rego normally rather than restrict her travels with club plates me thinks! ,,,at least for 6 months anyhow.

Be great to catch up...any other xs1100`s near brissie for a coffee while you guys are in Town?

i can just picture that,  question 1  why did it die when giving it twist

question 2    did the tub come up at you    with the flick to the left

and you want to tangle  with the kennelworth run

we must have a qld  x mas meet  in the near future

bring her home in one piece  General        safe trip
1. I had reached for the cruise control as it was mounted on my FJ. (further to the left). This thing has a kill switch mounted there!
2. No. (don`t think so anyway) I was a bit lucky as I darted to the LHS without killing anyone. Pulled up and put my thinking hat on.
ummm....when I use the back brake this thing also operates sidecar brake....so reasonably straight braking line. However when I suddenly use engine braking the chair`s momentum swings the outfit to the right...durrrh!
Every time the chair hits a bump, the rising motion cantilevers the motorcycle`s highest extremities to the right and left...durrhhh...I had a lot to learn, especially as going over complete transverse bumps (think speed humps) was like going over a speed hump at an angle due to wheels being triangulated offset!
By the time I made Albury we were mates. The previously chromed shiney exhausts were a shiny black (It had never been pushed) and our courtship blossomed.
Noticed a little break in the rain forcast so Headed East the next day to take on the Snowy Mountains!...Yahoo!

hi general

sounds like you'l be on a major learning curve

tip 1  find a empty area  and  do figure 8's   to find the tip points the  out fit will show you what it likes

tip 2  depending on how the front brakes are set up   get used to the idea the front wont dive under braking  it will rise up at you

tip 3 if its a bit wet the rear gets twitchy  easy take offs are the idea other wise you'l spin it up so easily

  cornering     most important

right handers  keep the power  on if it gets twitchy  roll off   gently

left handers     take these with great care   these may cause the tub to fly   if you're not ready  its is scarey  dont panic  and grab the brake  just roll off the power and straighten the front end a bit     il send a side car riders manuel  adapted for  Australia  in your email    have a safe and good trip  and call in on the way past
Thanks mate. Well I`ve finished my maiden voyage. (2300klms). First impressions weren't all that great as I took off from a mates place for the very first feel.....It seemed to push me violently from left to right and back again at every centimetre!...without rhyme or reason, as though it had a mind of it`s own!. Then it got this weird rumbling noise that sounded like a totally stuffed wheel bearing - but at different speeds....All this in the first few kilometres in peak hour traffic in Melbourne. ....I had taken on board the reasoning of some figure eights and practise in a carpark somewhere and like any intelligent rev head, completely ignored such good advise! When I finally got her settled down to a steady gallop I was on the outbound motorway with a Vee double on me tail....so I thought this would be a good time to flick on the throttle lock and relax......bad move!
She Suddenly died and lurched to the right....too which my perfectly tuned physical response (This is the one that bypasses any brain contribution) countersteered to the left with a 90 degree hard flick of the steering device....Now just imagine you`re driving your car and the steering wheel can only move 180 degrees to achieve lock to lock full steering range...and you violently execute this counter move at 80klm/hr while noting the Vee double behind you is a Vol model. (there may have been more letters, but that`s what filled the rear view mirrors at tha time!) .......I need ta take me post traumatic pills and a coffee!
(There was only another 228 kilometres ta  home!....and and annnd, I hadn`t taken on any major curves yet!).... :o ...to be continued....

Guess I should Paste that original post/Invitation Here:-

I`m flying down to Melbourne on next Wednesday (27th) to pick up an XS1100e outfit for a big solo roadie back to The Sunshine Coast QLD. Half a dozen FJ mates are meeting me for lunch at The Boathouse in Fairfield 12.30 ish.

Shit it`d be great ta meet up with you guys if ya in the neighbourhood. Apologies for the short Notice.

Ordered some clutch & brake parts from the USA on Wednesday last week and there already in FJ Noel`s Melbourne shed! (Many Thanks!)...So I should be set for me first real sidecar lesson of around 30 or 40 hours in tha saddle! ....ummmm...Do ya countersteer these contraptions? Do ya power on through a right hander? Can ya back`m in to a corner? ...guess I`ll have a better idea when I get home 4 or 5 days later.

Given that I pick her up at the bottom of our Island and I live nearer tha top, this could be a pretty hairy Roadie.

I`m ducking into Jindabyne on the way up as I organise the National FJ Rally every year, and that`s where it`s on  March 7th 2014 (Anniversary year)...even got 4 FJ enthusiasts coming from overseas. (USA & Canada)

Also Catching up with some XS members in Sydney and hopefully along the route...I love this Zeemap thing!   ;D
