Blokes,
All good, new pads simultaneously fixed the noise[the pads were, naturally, wearing unevenly which caused the problem according to the mechanic]

Thanx Steptoe_that makes sense- i will get a mechanic to check it out.Carl,a race bike mechanic/builder told me something along those lines. If the assembly is compressed[by foot]the noise doesnt happen[one has to remember to pump the system up for brakes b4  they r needed after this foot work]Does this throw more light on the matter Step?[is this abbreviation acceptable?]Thanx

ay mate,, how long since you pulled the rear assy apart,,
if not for a while, might pay to go thru it and have a look,, could be the small tin plates that seperate the steel of the brake pad and the cast alloy,, may have lost their spring,,

or you may have a small stone stuck in the groove of the fibre, going backwards puts the pressure on a different spot of the stone slightly moving it out it,s forward rolling position

hey scotty, take the bike up2 speed and
try some hard rear braking, get some heat into them
becareful not to
lock them up and that mno cars are behind u.

u could also put a chamfer on the edge of the  pads if that doesnt work.
