hey Pete,, does the nulon have the same effect as an oil stabilizer, like lucas oil stabilizers, they're US product, Morey's is AUS, same thing

if not might be worth looking into, can be bought at most auto stores

it's kind of like a wetting agent, even with the engine turned off, the oil stays up on the walls of the pots, also absorbs into and thickens oil that you use and doesn't react with the clutch pates,

can also make weeping seals take up

sorry Xtrian,, was joking, knew what you meant

Just to add a bit to what I already said;

Still using the same clutch plates and the only oil it needs is when she gets an oil change every 5,000km with a new filter every 10,000km.

When you're on a good thing stick to it.

with a clapped out motor that uses just as much
oil as fuel im using nulon 40-70 extra thick oil for worn engines,
no problems with clutch slippage and doesnt burn as much as 20-50
grade oils.

Just be careful using oils that have been designed for use in car engines, etc. Those types of oils usually have aditives in them which will eat into the friction plates in your clutch, eventually destroying them. The best bet is to use oils that are specifically made for motorcycle engines.

Would you believe Shell helix 15W 40? Was recommended to give it a try to fix a clutch slippage problem with mine just after I bought it in 2001. I;d checked the plates which were like new and all the adjustments were right so a sample of the oil was sent away to be checked and it had been filled just previously to my purchase with Castrol GTX which instantly friction modified the clutch. My associate said that this Helix stuff was suited to these old-school motors, so I filled it and rode around (gently) for about a week, then drained it and changed the filter, filled it again with new oil and took it for a run, and gave it the berries - no clutch slip, so I was sold! That was at around 19,500 k's and it's now done over 277,000 on the original rings, so it must be alright.
Main riding has been in Queensland in temps ranging from 47`c to -4`c and oil changes semi religiously at 5000k's

My bike is out of rego at the moment, i need to finish the bike before i need to get a blue slip - i will update my post when its all up and running. 20W 50 sounds about right, a nice thick oil for an older engine, thanks for the suggestion... Im gonna do an oil change this weekend looking foreward to it!

G'day,

I now live in Victoria having moved from Darwin a few years ago and Qld before that and am still using Vavolene XLD 20W 50.
Thats 25 years now and a Wisco 1179 upgrade along the way. All up milage, 350,000km.
I find it a great all weather oil and it falls squarely in the recommended oils spec range given with the original workshop manuals.

I notice you have'nt told us anything about yourself mate. Take a few minutes to upgrade your profile so that we all get a sense of who has joined the Brotherhood and where we are located.
