Air leaks. Airbox wasnt on, air/fuel mixture adjusters were out of whack. It starts up with no problems when you press the start button now.

Whilst we were at it, did a compression test as well.

1) 160 2) 140 3) 160 4) 150

No.2 is kinda of low. Im not sure if thats in the acceptable torerance/range so might have to look at up in the manual.

Also check voltage on the plug caps

1) 10.25 2) 10.14 3) 8.19 4) 10.41

No.3 spark plug cap is rather low considering I think 1 & 4 both fire from the same coil, so have to replace that.

But Mal said engine seems to run fine, just need to replace boots/diaphragm/gaskets for carbs etc and it should run alot better.

Picked up last Friday,

For $100 I got a fuel tank in excellent condition. It will get a fresh paint job and go on the 3131 rebuild.

All the rubber bits were in good nick along with the rear guard and swing arm/diff.

All in all a bargain.

The frame is in good nick if anyone needs one.

Back in the country. Progress on the bike will start with a carb cleaning. Wish me luck.

Hey guys,

Didn't get a chance to flush the oil as it was a 40 degree day when I left. And bike was not on top of priority that morning. When I was looking at the oil level indicator, I couldn't tell exactly if fuel was inside oil but couldn't smell fuel inside oil cap either. Guess I will see when I return.

Jonesy, thanks for those links. Seems like it could be my float levels not equal or perhaps a blocked passage/fuel line.

Either way, had a chance to speak to Mal before i left and hopefully get him to have a inspection of the bike for the all clear.

Thanks guys. I'll check the oil levels. I am going to flush the oil as well anyways as the pics shows the frame is bare metal with the intention of painting it. So need to flush to remove engine from frame. I'll also smell the oil and look to see if there is fuel /fumes in it. Much appreciated guys. Just glad engine actually runs as it was bought without having heard it crank or started.

Mate , here's a link to previous discussion on how people have gotten around the missing plug, or stripped tensioner bolt scenarios - CLICK

What Pete means is that fuel flooding can dilute the oil. which is bad for all the bearings in the motor. Have a check on the level before you go away mate. Might save a lot of heartache upon your return to the XSive mancave,

In South Australia. I'll empty the carb bowls via bottom bolt. I know bikes can get hydro locked due to not being able to compress the fuel that's in the oil - I'm assuming that's what your referring to? Having said that, I'm going to be able for a couple of weeks starting tomorrow afternoon so won't get opportunity to work on it again until I return.

Btw whilst I was doing the headers steam test, I saw a small pool of oil and realised it came from cam tensioner bolt. There is a hole in the middle of the tensioner bolt. Is there a plate or blockage that should be there? I don't have my xs11 manual in front of me at the moment to look.

Thanks again

no im not talking about a hydraulic lock, if the needle and seat are leaking,
fuel can flow forward into the cylinders and into the crank case, if u notice
the oil level has risen it would be best to change the oil.

on the cam chain tensioner, there should be a plug at the end of the tensioner,
they can pop out if the adj nut and bolt have threads that are stripped so be sure to
check that out as well.
