After much thought and sitting and looking I have now mounted the solo seat  :D  All I added was a bit of 22mm square aluminium tube under the seat to mount where the 14mm nuts are. That gives enough height to sit above the TCI. 2 bits of flat bar from there back to the original seat mount to stop it sliding back. Where the tubing runs across the frame there are 2 small cross braces welded there so I drilled 2 holes through there and the tube and that locks it into place. Eaaaaasy peeeaaasy..... Will post some photo's of it shortly.   ;D

No Stout, it's not you. That's why I said this
Quote
will require new brackets on the bike's frame ( or extensions of your original mount points to fit it) as it is a lot shorter than the original seat.
in my original post about it.

Is it just me, or do the rear seat mounts (with the 14mm nuts) go nowhere near reaching the slotted frame lugs on either the special or standard in those photos? When I saw the original shot of the solo seat from underneath, I thought 'Gee, never realised the distance between the tongue at the front and the mounting nuts was so short', but in the later photos, it actually looks like they don't match.

Jim,
Had a bit more of a look at the bikes and realised the TCI bolts onto the rear guard proper ( makes it hard when parts are spread between two sheds) so I've gathered up all the bits needed to fit that too. I think you said you're running pod filters so maybe you could just tuck the TCI on top of the battery using the existing wiring, but just to be sure it all goes ok, I've raided my old harness and got the two connectors and wiring that plug into the TCI unit so you can make a jumper lead up to reach the proper location on the back guard. I've stuck in some spade connectors but I haven't attached them to the wire ends as I've only got a sh*t crimper.
I'll drop this lot around at Steptoes place on my way in to work this arvo.

For want of showing that I did watch a certain television show " I love it when a plan comes together"  ;D  Exactly what I am planning on doing......shhh! don't let the government know. My rego is due shortly so this would be a good solution. I'll talk to Geoff and see what we can come up with.... 8)

wonder if I could mod it to fit...only need it on to get the mod plate

I have a cunning plan, Sire!
My original plan was to use the seat to get it plated, as I think you're inferring in your quote, then put the original back on to make it look original. Is that about right?
Seeing as the seat won't fit my bike as it is anyway, you're welcome to borrow  it to mod to suit your bike to get it plated. Seeing our bikes are basically the same in that area, whatever you do to it will also let it fit mine as well.  It should only need a trim of the base in the sidecover area to fix that bit and fitment of the E model inner plastic guard should let you relocate the TCI unit so it's out of the way. There shouldn't be too much dramas getting the plastic guard to fit in there as it looks to be only the profile that's different shapewise. Don't worry if you have to drill new holes or trim it to get it in there.
I was looking to do the same thing with mine when the rego was to be renewed seeing my better half can't ride pillion anymore and it seems rediculous to be paying so much extra each year for a vacant part of the seat. I've got till February before that has to happen for me. Finding spare time to mess around with stuff like that is pretty difficult for me, as Steptoe could attest to, so it would be beneficial to both of us to sort something out.

It seems Steptoe and yourself have the transportation industry sewn up so if i was to drop the seat and the E model inner guard off to him, it would miraculously find its way to you.
Whattya reckon?

I don't know how to say this but, It won't fit! I just put it on my bike and the front sides sit on the sidecovers, and the rear sits on the inner guard and tci box.
I went out and tried it on the donor E and it fits like it should. They have a much smaller profiled inner guard than the RH / Specials and I couldn't see it fitting without major surgery to either the seat or sidecovers and replacing the inner guard and relocating the TCI unit.
