Got my replacement TCI in the post yesterday.

Took it out for a test ride today.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

All is good. Will get your TCI back to you ASAP Dennis. Many thanks indeed.

Just thought I'd say thanks once again to all who chipped in with advice, toolwork and a loan TCI.

I used the bike up to the Mother in law's place in Wangarratta over Easter and it did about 700km without missing a beat.

I came back early today through a few heavy bands of mist/fog and drizzle. I was pleased to find that the electrics handled the dampness without complaint.

My new TCI is in the post, so all is good again.

Thanks also go to Christian for starting the board. It would have been sooooo much harder to fix without the local help.

Ok mate. Whatever sorts you out is good. I find these beasts are a bit finicky, but the rewards of owning one are worth it.
I had a "run in" with some chap on a ZX6 tonite on the way home from work. I think he grossly underestimated how fast these old girls are as he was all revs at the red. Looking across at me then back to the light, then when the green lit up, he baulked for a moment and, so sad, too bad, I was gone. Too much practice in Brissie with my son. Even very gentle in second gear, snick third and , where the hell is he?? Left lane, indicator on, where can I hide syndrome. Where were all his mates to witness this? Nowhere to be seen!
Pisses me off when you have a wanker on his new sportsbike wants to exert his authority on old, past generation, superbikes, and has his arse whipped and no one sees it! It's a conspiracy, I tell you!
I stopped in at Steptoes to tell him of my tale but he was out, probably with his lovely missus on this Easter Eve havin a luvly dinner, so I was resigned to having to ride home with this bit of excitement boiling in me.
It's a real bummer pulling off a real "shut up a you face job" and not having anyone to share it with. One day, I'm going to do the second gear fix and I'll really be able to give it the berries, not only off the line, but up the road some ways as well.
I can't wait to get this 17 inch rear worn out so I have to get a new rear tyre. Back to the 16 incher and more fun at the lights, eh?
In a way, I am relieved that the problem wasn't in the ignition switch, as they can be bas**ards of things to get right , once they've gone asunder.

Mate, It's ok. I'm sure the dash lights were brighter, ok? So long as your bike's running sweet, we'll believe anything. If anything falls through with the 4RO box, I've got a 2 H7 box here with a matching (according to Steptoe) advance unit. If you're stuck, PM me.
All for one, one for all.

Very kind mate, but it won't come to that. I have my eye on a second one too(as a spare). My thinking is that I should grab a couple while they are still relatively cheap and they'll do me for years to come.

A Boyer Brandsen kit (like Christian uses) can be had for under $200 too, so theres plenty of options.

The tube was so small I had no choice but to use a tiny amount.  :D :D

It may have been a placebo, but I was sure the dash lights were a shade brighter after I was done.

None of the voltages changed at the TCI though.

I hope you only used a very light smear,, in copious amounts, it actually blocks the flow of power

I use it too, but mainly in the back of plugs to water and gunk proof the terminals,, and also the slightest amount on the top of my spark plug threads, more so to lube/ease of pull offability

I also reckon it made a difference in spark intensity,, for my money anyway

Another thing I did today was to use di-electric grease on all the earths and also on every connector in the wiring loom.

They all looked good, but the di-electric grease can only help.

ended up doing plugged in and also unplugged,,with the ignit on,, made no diff's to my readings,, have only a cheap unit tho,
much to my dismay, have no real understanding of electrical gremlin sorting :-[

I still get 0.6v at the TCI on the tipover switch wire (black n white).

The tip-over switch works as expected, so I really don't understand the huge variation from what the manual says (6v).

Would be interesting to know if any other RH's share the same reading.

I made up a brand new Battery-Frame Earth lead today.

Made no effin difference.  :D :D  But it looks nice.  ;)

I also tested the operation of the tipover switch and it worls as expected.

I have been able to find a 4R0 TCI, so I'll be able to dive Dennis his one back soon.

Steptoe, for info, you have to measure this from the back of the connector block with the ignition on and the block still plugged into the TCI.

I measured and posted the black/white voltage in Melb's parallel thread in the UK forum.

Can someone put a meter on the black n white wire on the 8 pin TCI connector?

What is the voltage with the ignition on?
