Unfortunately that is a driving light and won t take the H4 high/low beam lamp. I have a set of the  Cibie Super Oscars they mention as it being the replacement lense for. Also the Oscars have a concave glass.

It's the finding part that's still eluding me. I've searched everywhere. tried looking up XJ650, TRX850, SR500, XJ900, XV1000, GSX1100EFE etc and no luck so far. most stuff online points to American models which didn't come with the bigger lights.
No luck at all with truck part sites either.
Closest I've come is Baja Designs offroad 8" halogen insert, and I'm waiting for a reply with details on the unit, firstly on the actual size plus whether it takes a H4 bulb or the normal H3 for driving lights. Price is good though.

And here's a pic for those who thought I was a bit over the top with my lights

Hey Errol, it sure is hard to find one of these that is the correct diameter.I also sent off an enquiry to wemoto regarding the actual diameter across the face of the glass.Maybe , Les...... you could temporarily fit a rectangular headlight off a standard until an original or close to original replacement comes along. At least you could progress with assembling and carrying out the wiring connections to get it running.

Just dragging this thread over from "the other side"

Quote from Les
"The one think I know I need is a new headlight lens. The one I have is smashed. Does anyone know of a locally available equivalent. Are the ones off the other XS models the same?"

Quote from Jeff
"Maybe one of these might suit what your after?

Probably should take this query and responses to "Workshop" or "General Bike Talk"  Les , just to catergorize it properly.
PS .......Great to hear this bikes going to be a keeper."

Hope this what you had in mind, Jeff.
Got a reply from the Wemoto dealer

Hi Errol

Thanks for your enquiry, 8" is the bucket diameter.

Many thanks
Ralph

This underlines the confusion that surrounds  lights. We talk in lens diameter, they seem to talk in bucket diameter. You have to make that very clear with any inquiries as to these lights.
As a reference, my lens is a Koito, same as Geoffs, and has the letters 20H2 embossed in the centre of the lens here

Had a big day in the workshop today. Got around to retro- refitting the running light kit to the bike. This is how it looks with the factory indicators, Pete-

These stand out so well, I used them to get home one night when the standard headlight fuse holder disintegrated. I just rode a bit slower than usual.

Are there any other Yamaha's that came out with the 8 inch headlight? I have a crack in mine?

Lou
I have a complete XJ900 headlight somewhere. Its fairly big so I'd say its 8". If you havent got one yet let me know.

My XS1100E  bought brand new here in Melbourne had it as standard fitament.
To convert an existing indicator setup from single to dual filament would be easy peasy.
Source a couple of "stop/tail"globes and bases from an  auto accessories shop or wreckers and wire the clearance /tail pin wiring into the park light in the headlight.Job done and can t get any cheaper.
There are no issues regarding fuse or wiring loads as mine has proven over the last 33 years.
From memory a stop tail lamp is 21/5 watt.........but i ll take my globe out and check to be sure.

It was the US models that had the running lights and dual filaments.

Hi Pete. Here's his flyer for the unit.

I'll PM you a copy of the installation instructions for you to read and let you think about it.

Oh, yeah, Pete. I contacted my friend and he said he does still make them. He's sending me some more info on them tomorrow but here's a sneaky peek at what the unit looks like, just to give you some idea of the size of the unit.

I'm pretty sure that was only on the E model in 1978. My donor bike is like that, which caused some consternation when I fitted the harness to my Special, which has the single wire indicators.
