don,t block them off mate, they help the carbs breath and the fuel flow and balance,

I have put a small block of foam in the end of mine to stop insects building in them

Hey John,
I actually bought those ones. They do send them over. Postage was ok but after that, and dollar exchange it made a cheap item not so cheap but If they work well as reported I will be happy.
Seems several things I can try with vent tubes. First will be plunking a fuel type filter on the end.
Have to chat later about meeting up for the ride to Wellington if we are both going???

Can someone explain what the Vent tubes are doing. Are they just a pollution control feature. What happens if I just block them off?

May I weigh into this? I'd like to fit pod filters on my XS 1100 H buy as far as I can tell then you cant keep the standard sidecovers yes?. The XS was designed with Mikuni 34mm carbs in mind. Ive had Z1 900 Kwaka's that came with 28 mm carbs. Then the Z1000 came out with 26mm carbs. What are the carb options with an XS??. are there performance kits for the standard carbs?. Is probably better to stay with thestandard carbs?

be high/low enuff to stop the hot air from comimng thru,
thinking of some thin sheet metal, but that might also
hold the heat,  some thick plastic maybe.
want something i can cut
holes into without to much dramas.

Pete have a look at the gsxr  11  suzy   they originaly came with a heat curtain made of a stiff heat resistant plastic  the curtain was attached to the top rail and dropped down between the rear of the carbys and the air box to stop the hot air getting sucked in but this made the seat hot and most peeps took it off

Hi Density foam........can be found by the length at plumbing suppliers........used for insulating A/C  piping.Also found in strip/roll form for expansion jointing in concreting.Clark Rubber stores might also stock  this or suuitable rubber in different profiles.All can be cut and glued to shape whatever you want to do .A thought i had on your finding of varied performance on different set ups was.....seeing as you are changing the air intake resistance .......would it not be a good idea to reset the mixture screws and check the timing?

i tried doing that to steptoe,
 but with the v/s and  the uni foam filters, air can come straight thru the back and side of
the foam filter, the end of the v/stack is flared which also assists in air flow,

with mikes pods and  the v/stax the air just didnt come thru like it did with
the above foam filters,  i did try it but it didnt run to well.

it did run better with the pods directly attached, but it runs much better
the way i have it now.

If you, got a spare airbox laying around (an old daggy one maybe) you could try boring out the velocity stack holes to fit the filter flanges through it, maybe? That way, you'd have the top mount bracket to help hold it in place.

by the look of the length of the old pods,, will the mikes filters fit the v/s some how,, maybe a poly sleeve or some thing

if you leaving the vent pipe unhooked,, don't leave it open, push some foam down it, to stop insects building in it

so im not leading any1 astray, i ended up putting
the uni filters back on stuck inside the velocity stax
and left the vent hose unhooked, the v/s make all the
difference and runs much better with this set up than
the pods from mikes xs, doesnt look as pretty but does a much better job.



the next thing i want to try is putting some sort of heatshield, to stop the hot air from the engine
coming thru to the back of the engine, was thinking of something across the velocity stax,
any1 with ideas of what i could use?

i was thinking of linking all 4 together
but thought id try it this way first,
was also easier with the vac lines and routing.
other ways i had tried it previously with the uni filters
the bike always bogged down.
