Um, the clicking I have is different, sorry to say. Check out my reply on the other thread. There's just too many differences to be the same problem. I'm still not 100% convinced my problem is with the spacer but it's definitely not the same or as bad as what Steptoe's

Great work on fixing yours though steptoe. Hope you had a few celebratory frothies over your achievement.

I now have to get myself an air powered rattle gun. That impressed me sooo much more than the knee pads

"CLICK" fixes
« Reply #6 on: January 29, 2010, 09:15:46 PM »
this has been on my mind most of the week,, lots of thinking time on the road,,,

what if,,,,,would you think there is enough strength in the casting around the steel insert to maybe drill and plug tap 3 holes,,, equal 3rds round the wheel,, and use grub screws with loctite to solidify the insert again,  considering the original "fix" is not recommended

still haven't fitted 516's wheel yet

I've heard of this (or something very similar) happening on quite a few XS11s,

Could be the bearing seating moving - more info here

nah mate,, it's in the wheel, it will click when wheeling it backwards out of the shed with out the motor going or any  strain,,,,

it won't make any sound spinning on the centre stand though,, it has to have the weight of the bike on it at least,,, keep coming back to axle, thats all thats left,,,,have replaced uni as well

pulled it apart again this arv,,,, axle does have markings where bearings sit, can't feel em but see them easy enough

mate, a tricky one.
metal to metal clicks bangs etc travel a fair way from their source and can be decieving.
have you checked the uni joint on the drive shaft, mine shat itself once and allowed it to clunk etc. is there much free play on wheel rotation before the drive shaft gives resistance?
If it turns out to be the uni joint there is a thread on here for non OEM part numbers.

rear wheel "CLICK"
« Reply #1 on: January 23, 2010, 02:02:59 PM »
does or has any one had a loud click in the back wheel,,it's not a bearing

sit on the right side of the bike, grab the wheel top & bottom, & push pull,,I get a small click, when I do this, it sounds like it's coming from where the spacer and the calliper assy touch,, but when going slow on the bike it sounds like splines

it sounds like the splines ,,diff to wheel are binding on each other,, copious amounts of grease help but don't remove

                                              what I've done

have changed the wheel splines,,same         have changed diff,,same    have changed bearings,,same     have repacked old bearings,,same

the only thing I haven't replaced is the axle, although no visible wear is evident, but pulling the wheel off,, every time I do the smooth face beside wheel splines is dry,,

which is where my thinking turns to the axle,, there must be enough wear to let the wheel either move round a little { there are no handling issues} or its not keeping the wheel square with the diff,, if I slide a spacer onto the axle there is a fair wobble happening, not sure how neat new parts fit

so does any body have any solutions {I've worn all my thinks out} or a brand new condition axle I can purchase

an up coming 2500klm ride would be a lot easier with no vibes.
