Wow, it's maiden run certainly put a smile on my face that's for sure :D. I took a quick run up the Bells line of road from Richmond and continued through til Lithgow, then a slow run down the mountain (Traffic) on the great western highway back home. I was more than concerned about the amount of fuel she drank though, I filled up at Richmond (23litres) and had to hit reserve at 190klms. I seem to remember that these bikes were good for around 230k's to 250k's before hitting reserve so an inspection of the plugs afterwards revealed that I have an over fueling problem in cylinders 3 & 4 (wet plugs) and cylinder 1 was very sooted up but dry and cylinder 2 was the only pot that resembled anything close to normal running showing a light brown colour. Seems I am in need of some jetting adjustments, has anyone got any handy hints I can use when it comes to re-jetting (I have never attempted this before and am a complete novice) and wouldn't know what size jets I would need. Or can you guys steer me in the direction of someone in the Sydney area that knows what they are doing?

Just check that the jets are a) the standard size and b)all the same size. Probably best to check a few other things before you go swapping jets.

1. Float height.  http://xs1100.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=909

2. Needle height.

3. Are the jets and passageways clean? - really clean

4. Are the carbs balanced - this can make a huge difference

Hey Jonesy, sounds like a plan mate. Wouldn't it be better if we were to use that colourtune tool of yours at home though, just thinking that whatever adjustments are needed then we will need some tools. I am in Hebersham (Mt Druitt) and am more than willing to have a ride up your way. I work every 2nd weekend so we will have to plan it to coincide with when I don't work. I am off this weekend so every second weekend onwards.
Cheers: Phil

Well it's finally registered and leagal  :D Not too much hassle at all really, it passed the blue slip inspection without any issues, then a 45 minute wait at the RTA for processing the paperwork and "Presto" the "PF-11" plate shines again.

I was amazed at how sneaky the RTA really are, as I took a picture of the plate to show a mate I had the "auto Flash" activated and was totally shocked at the resulting picture. The photo above shows the plate as "Black Background and silver lettering" taken without the flash, but look what happens when you add a flash.

I guess this puts an end to denying a speeding fine taken from a "Speed Camera" No mistaken identity case here. :o

Hey Phil it's what every XS1100 owner would love to have. An XS1100 looking like yours.
Two questions did you strip the motor down before painting and how did you put the seat cover on.

Hey Lumox, thanks for the praise mate. The motor was only mildly tweaked (valve grind and re-seat) as a leak down test identified an exhaust valve leak. While the engine was out I also had the gearbox looked at and it passed with flying colours, so I didn't strip it down any further than the barrels. It was very easy to paint with heat proof engine paint and using a heat proof clear coat while it was on the work bench. I did encounter a few problems though as the paint and clear coat needed curing and that was impossible to do with the engine out of the bike, the new paint was like a magnet to all the dust and crap that seems to accumulate inside a garage. So after some carefull washing with a very mild soap, it was then put undercover until the transplant was due to happen. Now as for the seat - that seat is new and is from a mob in Britain that sell them on eBay, I cant remember their name right now but will give it to you when I go through all the receipts that I have accumulated. The cost was $380aud, and will never rust as the base is made from resin. The only problem I had with the base was attaching the ducktail as when I drilled the holes for the screws it seemed to be very brittle
Cheers: Phil
