...but the real nub of the story is that the Story Bridge Concours, after 22 years, has become too big for Brisbane City and will henceforth be known as "Concours on the Bay" still hosted by CLQ but now esconced ay the Cleveland Showgrounds, Long Street, Cleveland. Still on the 3rd Sunday in July (17/7/2011)
Story Bridge Concours 2010.
STORY BRIDGE CONCOURS 2010
2010 saw Club Laverda Qld’s 22nd anniversary and the final event to be hosted at Captain Burke Park, Kangaroo Point.
The Concours has outgrown the modest area of the “park under the bridge” and from July 2011 will be located at the Cleveland Showgrounds, Long Street, Cleveland. But more about that later.
Concours 2010 was a family day with free admission (gold coin donation supporting MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION). The show is a true Concours de Elegance offering some 50 trophies across 14 classes.
Perfect weather saw an estimated 12,000 people came to see the record 189 entered show bikes and motorcycle club and motorcycle services displays.
The Dave Ritter Band provided the music popular with bikers and their families against the backdrop of the bridge, the bikes and the crowd.
The trophy for Best in Show 2008 and a cheque for $1500 went to an immaculately presented 1953 BMW 250cc machine owned by John Rutherford. Readers may recall that he won this trophy last year for a BMW also.
As in previous years, Club Laverda Qld supported Make a Wish Foundation
with donated money going to help children with terminal diseases. This year the club was unable to match last year’s donation and handed over a cheque for $7500. Our sincere thanks go to those who gave so freely on the day.
Thanks also go to Castrol Australia, Morgan and Wacker, Team Moto Group, and Brisbane Motorcycles as major sponsors, and the 25 minor sponsors.
The Brisbane motorcycle club community was again well represented with displays from basically all local clubs.
Captain Concours (aka Big Al) is proud that the 22nd Concours was such a success and thanks Ian Morrison (El Presidente) and all the Club Laverda Qld members and its merry band of helpers.
As mentioned earlier, Concours 2011 will be convened at the Cleveland Showgrounds. Long Street, Cleveland. From 2011 forward the event will be known as CONCOURS on the BAY, still hosted by the Club Laverda Qld team. Still on the 3rd Sunday in July (17/7/2011) and run largely as before still supporting the Make a Wish Foundation and with the same sponsors. With better access, parking, facilities and more space for trade and club displays, the event will undoubtedly be better than ever. CLQ, as organizers, looks forward to welcoming all interested parties and guests on the day.
