Finally! Got out for a bit of a run on the bike. Only went to town, though. Had to get some new welsch plugs for the big mower. I reckoned it would be easier to dodge the craters in the road on the bike than in the car, and I was right! The front brakes have been transformed by the new brake lines. It will now lock the front wheel if squeezed really hard, something it couldn't possibly do before. I think I can put the RH slider mod on the backburner now I have decent response out front..
Now, about that test run, Steps.................

I found that the new lines made an enormous difference.

Made me rethink the bluespot mod that i was planning, but will probably still do it one day.

Had a bit more of a drop today. The weather forecast on the radio (car) in the morning said fine with scattered showers with late rain. Idiot! It pissed down the whole 60klm trip into work and never stopped the whole day. The trip home tonight was steady, dodging the holes in what was left of the road surface. Took me 1/2 hr to traverse Childers (about 3klms) due to it being turned into a carpark as the Bruce Highway was cut just south of town. Looked amazing with trucks parked bumper to bumper the whole length of the town. When I eventually got home, my wife said we'd had 165mm of rain in 5 hours. My six small dams down the back have now become one, temporarily.
 Looks like I'll have some time to look at the bike again this week. Too wet for much else.

We've had more rain this year than all the rain we had in my previous 11 yrs in Australia.

I reckon the Brits would still think of it as a drought.  Poor bar stewards.

hi there, i hate the weather at the moment, im lucky i suppose cause with the BOM i can squese in a 30 minute ride in betreen the rain aslong as the road is fairly dry

Totally agree Eveready, not much fun out on the roads in this kind of weather. I took the XT600 for a run this morning up to Katoomba in the blue mountains, and all was going great until the heavens opened up. It quickly reminded me on just how easy it is to get it wrong on a wet road, be-it with a new front tyre and all. But all's well that ends well, and both me and the bike made a safe return home without any real issues. Can't wait to get the XS on the road, as I could have done with a little more weight on the rear wheel when riding in these conditions

Must have been raining Australia wide yesterday morning judging by the number of people online at 9 o'clockish. Thanks again Christian for giving us somewhere to sit out this mucky weather.
        My braided lines arrived two weeks ago but haven't had a chance to take the bike out for a run to test its new braking capabilities though the lever action hints that they should be a lot better as it no longer squeezes right back to the twistgrip. I'm waiting to see a dry patch of bitumen before seeing what happens.
     I'm spending today finishing off my trailer brake master cylinder revamp, made neccessary by the old cable snapping while hooking it up to the bike for another rain aborted test ride with Steptoe. The cable was unrepairable due to the outer being kinked quite a few times and haven't got a clue what it originally came off so I'm now going hydraulic all the way through instead of the old cable/ hydraulic setup. Guess this is what rainy days are for, eh?
