Has anyone seen the latest version of the Carma ad?

Click on pic to view.

That's quite an attitude turnaround from their last effort. :-* Still not forgiven, though. >:(

Great result but don't give me credit it was a campaign by quite a few people.
The group at Bikers Anon are a big part of the push, Sean Hawley in that group is a real go getta and part of the MCC.

You must have been truly satisfied to read that reply, Christian. Well done, me boyoh!
Still p*sses me off that they could so mindlessly promote a message like that to the public at large. I reckon they should now advertise an apology to motorcyclists in place of that Shite in the ad.
That's done me, though. No more dealing with Supercheap for me.

MCC Media Release re Supercheap ad

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2 November 2010

SUPERCHEAP AUTOS PROMISES TO PULL OFFENSIVE ADVERTISEMENT
AFTER PRESSURE FROM MOTORCYCLISTS

The Motorcycle Council of NSW (MCC of NSW) welcomes the decision by
Supercheap Auto to suspend indefinitely the showing of a television commercial that
shows a car driver deliberately opening a door on a passing motorcyclist.

The commercial, which shows a rider performing a manoeuvre known as "filtering",
between stationary cars has outraged the motorcycle community, who saw the ad
advocating vigilante-style assaults on motorcyclists by car drivers.

Chairman of the Motorcycle Council of NSW, Rob Colligan said: "As Motorcycle
Awareness Week ended, riders found themselves and their families confronted by a
TV commercial that said it was okay for car drivers to cause deliberate and massive
injuries to riders."

Filtering is a manoeuvre that significantly lessens traffic congestion and benefits both
the rider and car drivers because it removes motorcycle and scooter riders from the
chance of being rear-ended and puts them in a safer position.

Filtering by motorcycles and scooters means less congestion on our roads and in
reaction to the commercial which suggested that the act of filtering is dangerous,
Colligan stated: "I am not aware of any riders suffering any injuries from the act of
filtering and as far as the Motorcycle Council of NSW is concerned this action is one
of the safest on the road."

Colligan also said that in a recent meeting with the Roads Minister, David Borger, the
filtering issue was discussed and the Minister was positively interested to hear that in
the UK a rider must filter when doing their riding test or they fail the test for being
unsafe.

Colligan also called on Mr Borger to announce a trial of marked areas at the front
of certain intersections in Sydney to allow riders to filter to a safe position at traffic
lights, so that riders can demonstrate how this action benefits traffic flow and reduces
congestion.

The damage by the misguided Supercheap Auto advertisement to the entire positive
message of personal responsibility during Motorcycle Awareness week has been
substantial and it has only served to reinforce the lack of respect, commonsense and
decency so evident on the roads of NSW.

Colligan said "The MCC of NSW would welcome an approach from Supercheap
Auto to discuss how this can be rectified."

As someone on the comments under the video says:

Why didn't they do an ad where people drop concrete blocks from an overpass on anyone using a mobile phone while driving.

Just because the guy isn't exactly doing the right thing it doesn't mean that they should condone putting his life in danger.

Assholes.

it's a bit hard to understand how the ad wasn't designed to offend any part of road users,,

when you have the enforcer, telling you not to split lanes, and obey the rules,,

pretty sure it's pointed at bike riders,,

that said,, who filters thru traffic like that ??

Dear Sir/Madam

Thank you for taking the time to contact us with feedback regarding the ‘CARMA’ Television campaign.

Your feedback is important to us.

Supercheap Auto’s CARMA campaign has been developed to alert road users to the many risks on our roads and aims to increase levels of awareness amongst road users.

At no time was the campaign intended to offend or alienate any particular group of road users. The particular campaign referenced was intended to highlight just one of the many dangers encountered on our roads on a daily basis and encourage greater levels of awareness.

After feedback on this particular part of the campaign, we have decided to suspend airplay indefinitely while we review its messaging and intent.

Thank you again for your feedback, Supercheap Auto remains committed to promoting increased awareness of the many risks and hazards on our roads to ensure a safer place for all road users.

Regards

Supercheap Auto Marketing

I haven't seen the ad yet. Was the offender driving a volvo (or a Magna), by any chance?
