The link was a little busted but I found it. Think that is about the cheapest for a new one yet at $70 and I think $25 postage all in US$

Thanks, but member sent me a PM and has one for me. Bloody ripper :)

Just as a footnote, Reafords in Dubbo don't have any stock (new or 2nd hand) and Les Penna M/C in Melbourne have 3 bikes wrecking but all have been stripped of any useful parts. I was given the name of "Yamaha Retro Spares"  in Adelaide SA (www.yamaharetrospares.com) and they are trying to track down the parts that I am looking for. So fingers crossed and toes and legs and whatever else can be crossed, it's now a case of wait and see. ;)

Hey Eveready, no mate I haven't been able to track down a decent tool kit as yet, but not for the lack of trying. I emailed Yamaha Australia the other day regarding the original finish on the nuts and bolts from the factory and they were more than helpful with the info they supplied that would usually only be available to "Licenced Yamaha Dealers". Also they gave me the names of 2 outlets that may have leftover stock from the eighties, and they are: Reafords in Dubbo and Les Penna M/C Melbourne, so I will also give them a try, you just never know there maybe one sitting on a shelf somewhere that has been forgotten. Hey mate, I can't wait to see this baby completed either, and the day i take her for the maiden ride will be an awesome day indeed.
Cheers: Phil

Hi Phil. Just curious as to whether you've got the extension sleeve that fits the handle on the wire swingarm thingie. It's also used on the original ring spanners in the toolkit.
I've been looking nearly everytime I'm online but so far there's been nothing except that XStra XSpensive $$$$$$$$ newie on German Ebay.
Just remember my offer on the one I've got here. Sounds like you're progressing towards "Ignition Phase" quite nicely. Can't wait to see it.

Hey Pete, I must admit that I was surprised at how cheap the xt's are now. The one I bought for $3800 is a 96 model with 21000K's came with a gearsack rack, 2 extra tyres (off road), a new seat cover, new chain and sprockets and 11 months rego. apparently it had sat in a shed for 9 years and was stored with care, so it looks very tidy and goes great. Only one issue with it so far, and that is a cut in the front tyre that extends over the tread and onto the sidewall, so a new tyre is on the way. Just so we can align the weekends, is this coming one with your daughter, or will it be the following weekend that you see her?

Thanks Pete, I am happy to take you up on your offer and will try to organise a time that suits us both, the leak test was done by a guy at work and he too has offered to help. So I recon between the 3 of us, this engine should purr like it did 31 years ago. Hey I picked up an XT600 to use as a run around so if you find yourself short of a riding buddy and don't mind waiting around for me to catch up (it is only a single ;D) then give us a holler. It is rather dull on the tar, but comes into its own on the dirt. I took it up to Glenbrook national park the other day after work and had a blast, nothing could wipe the grin from my face. It's been 20 years or more since I owned a road/trail and I had forgotten just how much fun these things can be. But more than happy to just plod along behind your XS somewhere enjoying the wind in my face  :D

Hey Pete,
it's still happening at "Snails Pace" But the forks are in QLD being reconditioned as we speak, and every nut and bolt from the frame (166 pieces) are in getting a fresh coat of zinc. I should be getting the bolts back sometime next week, and I am expecting the forks will be arriving within the next fortnight. I had a "leak" test done on the engine and it seems I have an issue with the exhaust valve on number 3 cylinder, and I will be diving into the engine real soon to do the repair.
My wife has bought me a new seat from England that has a resson base and will be giving it to me for Christmas, my boys have bought the decals (replica of the originals) along with a new set of mirrors, speedo cable, and front wheel bearings which will be their present to me. I am still undecided as to what to paint the wheels with, and as to what colour, I am leaning toward metallic black as it looks awesome in the can. Just hope it will look OK on the bike, and not over done. I received the rubber boot today for the driveshaft uni from PGNZ, and it almost looks new, I am stocked to say the least. I have purchased some excellent brake rotors with hardly any wear on them and have been kept busy with painting the centres from gold to black. I need to chase up the wire cable that supports the rear wheel  when doing a repair, these are so hard to find but it will be an essential part of the tool kit as I intend to run with replica stainless exhausts and without this cable it will be extremely difficult to remove the axle. Anyways that's enough from me, how are you doing??
