ay Ken, had the same prob with mine till EV gave me THE RIGHT  tool,, had been overfilling mine for ever,, put the right amount in, I could feel the difference in the bike

the plugs don't look to far off, did the light brown ceramic plugs come off the same coil, or beside each other in the motor

second from the left is the only one you'd say had a prob, if it was being ridden all the time, I'd wait to see what they look like when you start riding it,,

keep tinckering ,,  ;)

Sooooo,
I should drain the middle gear oil and fill it to the level of the dipstick lines ??

That also means that it was overfilled when last serviced.
I measured at least 300mm of old oil + a lot of spillage.

I also have the gear now to polish the front forks.
I did a test run on a spot with bad corrosion, it will come up nice when I attack them.

I also bought a 6 circuit fuse block from JayCar, my next job for when it rains.

Ken, another not dumb question. That'd be the capacity from empty so just from draining it & refilling it will take a fair bit less. It's all good, mate! Keep 'em coming.

Hi,
Another dumb question.
Did the middle gear oil this arvo, the old oil was quite good  ;D

Went to fill it up, made a funnel tool #2 for the job.

The workshop manual said 375mm, so I put in roughly 300mm and checked the level with the dipstick, something’s wrong ???

The oil level is way above the lines of the dipstick with only 300mm.
I measured out the old oil and there was about 350mm there, not including what spilt.

Any suggestions??

Given the condition of the bike, maybe the plugs got that way from just being started up periodically while in storage? They'll look a lot better after giving it a bit of a run in the country.

I think it's from a lot of short rides, the bike is running a bit rich ???

I'll see how the new ones turn out.

A job I'll have to do sooner than latter.

I have a new fuse box bought for something at work a few years ago, it's like a "Super Cheep" thing and it is   lol lol

I might put a 5 or a 6 circuit holder on ??  spares

Will look around tomorrow.

Sounds like you're getting to know your new baby quite intimately, which is a great start to your relationship. The original fuse holder is a real fizzer (literally), and many Xs owners have made the swap. In my case, I used a generic 4 fuse holder I sourced from Repco which cost about $6 - 7.
      I disconnected the battery to remove any chance of a short, cut a small backing plate out of plastic to screw onto the original's mounting holes and screwed the new box to it, then pulled the fuse holder clips out of the old box one link at a time, snipped off the remnants of the clips, then crimped on new lugs and connected them to the new box. Just continued with each one till all done.
       Kept the old holder & cover with the diagram in it on the garage wall for reference sake. Haven't had a fuse go in 7 years since I did the swap. Good value  and really gives you peace of mind when you're out 2,000 klms from home, alone.

Hi,
Lost some electrics, bugger. :(
A glass fuse fell out when I opened up the lid.
A leg on the fuse holder is broken, so it looks like I'll swap the fuse block out with one that uses spade fuses.

Have any members done it, what brand of holder did you use ??

Thought I’d start a thread on my new girl and what I’m doing, maintenance wise, to her. 

Yesterday I cleaned and recharged the K&N filter, wasn’t too bad at all. Cleaned out the air box and lightly greased it, to pick any bits.

I also flushed out the brake fluid with dot 4. There was quite a bit of rust and sludge on that metal frame above the rubber diaphragm and water on top of the diaphragm.
The old fluid looked all ok, some tiny bubbles front and rear and a bit of white sludge ?? chunky bits in the lines.

Today I checked the timing, all was ok.

Changed out the plugs, all 4 looked like they have been running cold, or a bit of carbon build up on them. May try and post some pics of them

Adjusted the can chain tensioner that made the motor a bit more quiet, can’t find my torque wrench, will check again when I do.

Also did the engine oil, oil and filter looks yuck. Haven’t emptied the old oil out yet, will check for bits in it. I’ll change it out again fairly soon and drop the sump next time.

Also did a bit of chrome polishing, used that “BritShine” that comes in the yellow tin.
It made a lot of the chrome brilliant; it removed a lot of the rust spots. Also bought some Autosol for the chrome but can’t find a buffer for the drill.

More work tomorrow.
