Spent nearly the whole day yesterday removing the corrosion off the engine and cooling fins.
What a job, a real bugger  :o

Painted the sides of the engine with engine paint and it looks a whole lot better.
May not look professional, but it's better than it was and hopefully stop the oxides.

When or if ever the motor come out, it will be done properly.

I also replaced the fuse block.
Had to be done quickly as 2 holders were stuffed.

I may extend the wires and do it properly one day.

Painted the LHS case yesterday and the RHS one today with engine paint.
Before and after shots.
.

I'm trying to knock off the flackey paint and corrosion on the engine as well.
A lot of the origional paint has oxide under it. The pic shows after effects of a small wire tooth brush.

They turned out quite well.
Calliper paint is a lot like engine paint, takes the heat.
Bought it from Autobarn, comes in a spray can.
Roughed it up with a wire"tooth brush", sanded and painted with a small artist brush.

Today I stripped the oxide and flaky paint off the front callipers.
Did a light sand with 1200 wet/dry on a rubber block.

It all cleaned up fairly well and painted with black enamel caliper paint, using a small artist brush.

Quite happy for a one hour job.

Brake pads are perfect, just did a very light sand/rough up on them.

I also tried removing some stone chips and oxide from an engine cover.
Same thing, sand and paint with an engine enamel.

I suppose it will do for a temporary job until when/if I ever remove the head and barrels.
It will be better than what’s there.

Hi Peter,
I just have the mercury edition of the Morgan Carby Tune. It's not working the best, have little "somethings" in the tubes that cause the mercury to bubble.

I'm in a group buy on the FJR forum and getting the new type of the Carby Tune.
Once I initally set the FJR, the readings they haven't changed in 3 years.

Boy the XS starts and idles better, it was quite rough warming up.

Cheers

Too windy up this way to ride today so I did the carbie sync  :o

#2 wasn't registering at all on the vacuum gauge and #1 was four times 3&4, finally made 1&2 equal, then bugger what’s wrong…….fuel to carbies lol lol.

#3&4 were nearly equal and were all finally balanced within 1cm of each other.

Set the idle to 1000rpm and boy what a difference.

Also lubed the clutch and throttle cables and adjusted the clutch mech.

Fine day tomorrow  ;D

Thanks Gents,
The plugs are lined up 1-4, soooo "the carbys might need a sync" bingo, thanks.
I didn't really notice/see it, until you mentioned it, thanks.
Have a mercury carby tune, I'll wait for a rainy day.

The filter is a K&N, I cleaned it out and charged it. It wasn't dirty at all  ;D

I couldn't see why the dipstick was soo far out with only 300mm of oil in it ???
I'll drain it and fill using the dipstick and not by adding 375mm.

I posted the same pic on this forum under new members. The photo makes the bike look a lot better than it really is.  ;D

The forks are really badly corroded, some on the motor fins, rust on the headlight bracket chrome.
I got out the BriteShine and it really did a job on some rust spots on the front mudguard and the air box chrome. Great stuff.

Cheers
Ken

hi ken,
with the look of those plugs, the carbys might need a sync,
mainly the left and right bank,
adj the mixture srcrews, (being really carefully not to seat them to hard as the tips are very soft and break easily)
also check the air filter isnt blocked or restricted.

also are you aware the dip stick checks both middle and final drive units?

i saw a pic of ur bike on the uk forum,
thats a really nice buy.
