I've taken the centre stand off both my XS's, they are a dead weight.  >:(

To remove the rear wheel etc I just use a car jack on the right-hand lower frame rail and tilt the bike over onto the side stand.

yeh Bryan, that looks like a good solution and a nice tidy clean bike shot there.
I'll think about how much I actually use the Main Stand given that I've only had one flat tyre in 300,000klm and I use a workshop lift platform at home for servicing.
Bet I get a flat the day I take it off though!!

I have taken my centre stand off and stored it (it is ugly dead weight AND with the longer shocks i found that under acceleration the rear wheel touched the centre stand) and now only use it in the garage for servicing etc
Anyhoo - the rubber on the side stand makes a stop on the rear set bracket - hey presto - side stand stopper................

this was before I lengthened the side stand - no more block of wood required

Thanks Fungorus,

I went down that road and didn't like the look of it when the stand was down. Peter's looks OK with a bit of paint to blend it in.

Thanks Peter,

That looks like an add on that will stop your Main Stand from hitting up under an aftermarket exhaust system.
Does it also allow the Side Stand to go up fully without hitting the Main Stand? If so then I could easily rip the top off a couple of home brews and make one up.

Hi Fred
My XS1100E 1978 side stand has a rubber doughnut attached to the leg part to stop it from doing exactly what your saying (the bit your foot touches when putting the stand down). Don't know if it is an original part or not, but an easy fix. Hope this helps.

Hey Bros,

I've heard tell somewhere that on models after the '78E, Yamaha incorporated a Side or Main stand stopper to eliminate the problem of the Side stand bashing up into the Mainstand and as in my case, eventually wearing a hole in the Main.
Is this attached to the frame or one of the stands? Can I fit it to my '78E without welding a mounting point to my powdercoated frame? or do I replace my stand with one from a later model?
All thoughts donated to this worthy cause greatfully accepted and mulled over.
