Run to Freemantle

Thought a run to Freemantle for tea on a Saturday night might be a good run, all part of this years National Blackdog ride

It’s a Friday night,4th October,  Maggie_Mae is in as good a condition as I can make her, and is packed.

The lead up to the run,,

This is the run that the experiment with the XS750 18” wheel is being used for, being fitted to its matching 750 already installed diff, as we know the 750/850 diff is taller which drops the engine rpm down, with Evs’ help over a couple of weekends, we’ve managed to centre the wheel using a 3mm spacer against the drive spline, which in turn means we’ve lost 3mm of spline contact, but I’m not planning on drag racing her in this configuration so it won’t be a problem. Another couple of spacers on the  disc side, 1x 6mm under the disc to centre the original disc in the calliper arm and another one to fill the gap against the swing arm and you can’t tell it doesn’t belong in there, the biggest issue that I could see here was the 18 has a solid drive spline mount, whereas ours are rubber mounted, I wasn’t really sure how much of a harmonic vibration I’d be dealing with, but as it turns out it’s hardly noticeable, there is a slight vib there but it won’t be an issue as the rest of the bike is running so smoothly
so after a short run with the 18 wheel, the engine rpm looks like it’ll come down to 3480rpm @100kph, which will hugely increase fuel range getting it a long way from the 4000 rpm where the mains start kicking in. Along with the wheel, after 21 yrs, a new clutch pack assembly has been fitted also , and just because, I’ve fitted LED daylight running lights to the front of her,

                                                                   The Plan
5 days over, 6 days home
Leaving on the 5th and be back home on the19th

The plan is tomorrow I ride to a mates near Toowoomba to meet up with the other 3 mad hatters  that I’m running with who also don’t have the time to take off work to do it at a leisurely pace
Day 1 is Toooomba to Cobar, around 963 klms,, Day 2 is Cobar to Port Augusta, just under 1100 klms,, Day 3 Port Augusta to Ceduna, another 900ish day, then the next 3 days are almost half days, Ceduna to Esperance, 600ish Esperance to Wave Rock, 450ish then 400ish into Freemantle a bit after lunch on Friday
Spend Friday afternoon through till Sunday morning in town, then launch it up the WA coast to 80 mile beach, across through Kunanara, to Katherine in the NT over to MT Isa and over to the coast and home, with a spare day coming across the NT if we decide to have another day off the bikes by then, close enough to 12000klm in 12 days of riding.
I guess we’ll find out soon enough
