Jonesy, I most certainly will. The only difficulty I anticipate (there may be more traps of course) is working around the new boot to get the four nuts onto the drive shaft. I'll have a dig after school today.

Got all I needed at BSC Orange last night. Here's hoping the reassembly goes as smoothly as the pulling apart!

Just dropped in in the new universal joint and remembered when using an [RUJ-1780] you need to add a 0.9 to 1.0 mm shim, 4 required, between the snap rings and the yolk due the groove being in a slightly different position.
Nice and smooth today.
Just a note regarding the old universal joint. It had ruptured one of its bearing cases and ejected all the needle rollers into the swing arm.

Hey Andy, Not essential but recommended, in some cases they will be damaged when removing anyway. and should be available from SKF in Bathurst, opposite the new maccas

If I'm replacing the swing arm bearings is it essential to change the seals and are they as widely available as this thread suggests the bearings are?

Thanks Jonesy
I have found a reference in my log book.
161,679 km’s - 30/03/90 - 2 swing-arm bearings fitted [HR 30203 J].        $24.00
Unfortunately my local bearing shop only has one in stock at the moment.
I may need to order some online.
Cheers

If you can get the dimensions off the old cup and cone your local bearing shop should be able to match them. If not put the dimensions up here, I have SKF & FAG reference books, Manufacturer brand isn't critical as most but not all bearing manufacturers use the same identification/model numbers

Swing Arm Bearing size?
« Reply #1 on: February 09, 2021, 03:50:58 PM »
Hi all
Does anyone know what the bearing number is for the swing arm bearings?
Aftermarket bearing size not Yamaha part number.
Since my recent engine rebuild my clutch started to slip badly so I installed heavy duty clutch springs which fixed the issue.
But now it appears I have worn out the uni-joint in the driveshaft.
About 3 mm rotational movement now.
I have only done 260,000 km's on this uni joint.
I know a Datsun 120Y uni-joint [RUJ-1780] fits straight in there, as I changed that at 200,000 km's, but cannot remember what the swing arm bearing were.
Does anyone know?
