Phil,
Your bits are on their way. The little nuts hlolding them on were pretty well rusted in place but the whole seat base was rusted away from the edges. I just cut away the edge of the seat cover and the trims came out along with the rusty scrap behind them. A wee bit of careful snipping and the remnants of the vinyl came away clean from the strips. The mounting tabs are now in a wee plastic baggie in one end of the posting tube soaking in CRC so don't just chuck the tube thing in the bin once you pull the strips out OK? I thought I'd leave getting the rusted nuts off to you but at least you've got all the originals to make repros of if need be.

Hey Errol, I got the seat strips today thanks heaps mate. They will come up a treat with a fresh coat of paint and renewed pinstripe. Thanks for the extra mile you went to to give me a head start on loosening those nuts from the attaching brackets, after a little effort they all came loose without any issues. Thanks again mate.

Cheers:Phil

Hey essjay, how much were you after for the exhaust ?? Does it have any road rash, and if so how bad ??
Cheers: Phil

If postage isnt too prohibitive, i have a standard exhaust system in reasonable shape - bit of polish and elbow grease would get them looking new. From a 19801100G, standard model. should fit on?

Will list it in the for sale section if nobody interested here.

Hi Phil.
Did you manage to get the seat accent strips you were after? If not, I've got a 78E donor bike that'll never see the road again and its got the trim strips on it though the seat itself is stuffed. You're more than welcome to them just for the postage costs if you get stuck.

Hey Eveready, that would be great mate. I have left you a private message with my address and contact details. Can't thank you enough mate.  :D

Nice looking set up, but I am trying to get this bike as close to original as possible. So it will be the BSM system, but it will take a while to save the dollars, as they are quite pricey  :(

As far as exhaust goes you could try doing the MadBill mod and using XJR1200 system

If cost is no object and you are looking for something that most closely matches the original pipes, then I think the BSM system is the way to go.

Or if you are absolutely loaded the replica stainless kit from Germany might be the way ..

Brian, on the UK site, has done easily the most extensive run-down of all the alternative exhaust options past and present.

Awesome looking pipes melbxs, it will be a while until I need them but they will certainly be on the "must have" list. Thanks heaps for the info.

Phil, maate

ask and you shall recieve: :D

the seat accent strips (OEM) you are looking for are at: www.lawnmowerpros.com

On their home page is a search box - type in "2H7-24785-00-H6"
This is the XS1100 seat mold left USD$32.95

Then search for "2H7-24785-10-H6"
This is the XS1100 seat mold right USD$18.95

Combined shipping USD$13.95   =   Total USD$65.85

Only thing is they come in the '78E colour "Macho Maroon" but as you're not going original colour anyway you can spray them as well.
Hope this helps.

Wow you guy's are amaizing, thanks heaps Fred. I will get onto ordering them real soon.
Cheers: Phil

Welcome Phil,

great to see another obsesive XSessive. ;D

Good luck with the rebuild.

Are you taking a look inside the heart of the beast or does it appear in good nick? :-\
If you're rebuilding the tranny you might find it a bit difficult to access a couple of the gears in OEM.
I had to have 4th made as a one off after waiting 12 weeks for Japan to tell me they no longer had one.
Also mate, It's a good idea to have 2nd gear undercut while you're in there to stop it dropping out after about 30k klms :(

I'm sure if any of us can help with parts or anything you have only to ask.

Hey Fred, thanks for the well wishes. I was thinking of taking the head off at-least and seeing how it looks from there. Second gear seems strong though, as I put it to the test on the garage floor when we first got it home. Although I know that real life riding will put more load on it than can be replicated on a garage floor spinning the back wheel. The guy I bought it off told me it has a Yoshi Kit in it and the compression in each cylinder was in excess of 200 PSI, so at this stage it all seems pretty good.  :-\ It is showing 76000 Klm's but not sure if it's been around the clock or not.
Cheers: Phil
