This has disappeared from Gumtree and the link to the ad says it's been sold.

I spoke to the owner.   It's a Japanese domestic model that came to Australia via Germany.     He was selling because he was finding it more-and-more difficult to ride due to age.

The ad mentioned that the seat had been recovered and I was interested to know who did the job because it looked like good work and I have seat that needs doing.   Turns out the seat cover came in from Thailand via ebay and he had it fitted locally.   This cover:

A few other interesting things in the photos:

- looks to be missing the lower fairing cover
- might be the photo, but appears to be missing the plastic trim piece over the frame under the front of the tank (maybe this model didn't have it...)
- RH front brake disc appears quite scored
- RH foot peg looks......weird
- missing both pillion foot pegs, but might be a 'feature' of the model
- there's something attached at the curve of the LH handlebar...can't make it out.

Seller states that the seat has been recovered...pretty good job based on the photos.

I'm curious about the engine and frame numbers....might give the seller a call.

Mmmm, I’ll have to check out the RH basket case and see if it has one.

Both the 81H and 81 RH had the chain lock. Additionally the RH had a steering lock on the stem as well as the ignition.

For what it is, with original everything, It is well worth the money. IMO

Hi. The chain must have been standard fitment on some models. I don't know of the standard had one but I believe that the specials did. It uses the same key as the ignition.

Fork brace will be after market.   Few - if any - bikes from that era came with one standard.   The other thing is a chain type wheel lock.   Most of the chain fits inside a plastic container bolted to the frame and one end of the lock attaches to a little tab welded to the frame - has to be undone with the key so it can't be nicked.   The RH parts list shows it:

The chain lock is part 32 and the plastic case for it is part 33.

As for the Honda being cheaper....well, it is a Honda after all ::) ;D

There was a Honda ad campaign in the early 70's for its motorcycles with the catch line:

'Honda's have got the get-up and go',

.....to which was unkindly added by some:

'yeh, if you've got the get-up to push 'em'

 ;)

[no offence intended by any of the above  :)]

Looks pretty good. Even has a fork brace, or is that STD? And what’s that little lock thingie above the right foot peg??
But it’s more than I paid for a 76 CB 750 F1 with 7500 original miles on the clock!

Japanese import on Gumtree

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/archerfield/motorcycles/yamaha-xs1100h/1241577406

Looks pretty original.   Speed warning light on speedo is the give away regarding grey import, but would be a rare bike even for Japan given their restrictive registration conditions particularly as bikes/cars get older.   Probably from a collection or been in storage in Japan for a long time.

Seems to be a specialist importer is the seller with all the other bikes of various makes/models in the background + the location is an industrial area.

I'd go and have a look if a bit closer  ::)
