Motor out, repaired, back in and started in 4.5 hrs? too good for me steptoe,
I've put in about 1.5 hours stripping breakable bits (fairing, all lights including blinkers head & tail, handle bar controls, instruments) clutch, sump, exhaust, gear selector mechanism getting it ready to flip.

Still undecided, but removing stuff like pipes, sump etc that have to come off either way while I decide, started to pull the carbs that gave me grief while installing and halted proceedings to think maybe flipping is the go  :-\

I flipped the rounds using a half tonne chain block.
If I ever have to do the gears again I will flip.

it is a two person job - flipping it - I've a ratchet hoist from the ceiling - it's invaluable

Hmm, something to ponder Jeff..............could go a little further and ocky strap the brakes on to stop fore and aft rolling too
Brett i gave up lying on my back working in shitty conditions under machinery years ago, if I were stranded on the side of the road with no other choice, then I'd do it

Some days I just Amaze myself. ;D
Whilst sitting here on my chair waiting for something to happen I had an epiphany .....
Is there any reason why this job can t be made easier by neither of the mentioned methods...and....wait for it.....
With the bike on your lift ...secure the front and back wheel to the lift ..maybe with some flat strap steel saddles ...insulated not to damage the rims..... then use ratchet straps from the top of the frame and headstem along with a chain hoist to your roof trusses.....and simply lean the bike over from side to side as needed to give you easy access to deal with side covers.... levers... clutch and oil pan access ....gears etc.
Whaaddya reckon?

Thought about doing it upright and then dismissed it about as quickly as it takes to read this. For me, another thing against flipping is having to beef up my roof truss to support the bike while flipping not a biggy but it all adds up

I’m contemplating the same Jonesy. Need to swap out 2nd. As I’m also looking at putting a big bore kit in I figure I might as well pull the short block out and do it.
Don’t forget there is another option of doing it upright. I was a bit concerned doing it that way being a novice and Andy,s video doesn’t show how he gets it back together but a pro like you should handle this no worries.
3 hour job done only working on what you have to.
