 :o what a great report  8) talking about fuel I believe mixing it up is good sometimes 95/98 for mountains and 91 for the flat long hall

I may well have to do something big when mine is back together. A run to Qld should blow a few cobwebs out. Thanks for your efforts Geoff and yes, there's much less built up black gunk on my new air filter, it might even let a bit of air through. The screwdriver insertion hurt as much as it should have but removing it was easier.

THE WASH UP
The run was a great chance to compare fuel rons {apples with apples} on flats and mountains, my own come-upance of the whole deal was for the huge difference in price and the slight distance gains in klms,  245klm for $23.44 on 91 to  283klm for $26 on 95 to 300klm for $29.65 on 98,
   I didn,t think of writing all fuel prices at pump at the time for a cost comparison so it's hard to compare here now, but a fairly uniform dollars per klm, and there was no noticable difference in the performance of the bike, I,d be running the 91 and pocketing  the extra $$  {with a top end lube of some sort if you felt the need}
the worst fuel figures were 13.7 on 98 and 14.8 running 91
------I don,t know how but 2603 klm was the whole trip, {by the speedo}
------I put 222.05 litres through the bike for an average of 11.74 across the whole 5 1/2 days,
 -----the best figures for the trip were rolling between Jonesys' place and meeting Lou in ACT @ 15.84 ltrs/klm, on caltex vortex 95
------ 15.87 between Grafton and Gold coast on  United 98
------ then between gold coast and gympie @17.02 ltrs/klm on open freeway running BP 95
      The trip itself was just a rolling joy, listening to the bike working in the hills and corners or just lazilly munching up the k's, it,s the bike to do it on.
It's definetly not an outback summer bike, it got bloody hot behind that fairing, to the point the leathers were very hot to touch when I pulled up for fuel, luckily for me I,d decided to wear skins thanks to Bryans suggestion from some time ago so the heat hadn,t transfered through so much.
     Between us we fixed both Mark  and Johns bike and sorted Dans, I have his carbs on the bench as I write, they need a bit of love then will be sent back
Hopefully there'll be a few more runs like this one, I'll be looking forward to them

day 3
a quick coffee with my host a piece of toast saw the start of the next bit,
I have never seen a hill sign that warns of steep decent for 10klm, but thats what Browns Hill out from Cooma offered,
it was our home twisties on steroids, as was much of the ride down and out to the coast

we/I arrived at Johns around 1100ish and hooked straight into todays project,, a top end adjust and fit and tune carbs,,
It started smashingly enough until a bolt was dropped straight into and through the spark plug hole ending up on top of the piston, {what a heart stopper}. A quick trip to auto pro for some extending magnetic help and a few minutes later it was all sorted,, {it puts your game off to say the least}

with some tutorlidge John was measuring and adjusting his own valves in no time, all bar one exhaust were running very tight,  all intakes were runnig .10 and all exhaust were running .18,, having run the trip with the shim library all valves were sorted and all is fair and equal again
 honours for consistency had to be  recognised {the bike has 46 thousand miles on her}

some 6 hrs of working talking and teaching saw the bike purring like a kitten, smoothness, quietness and lovely brown plugs abound

its off to the godfathers for a few hours tomorrow, for a catch up and undoubtedly a few jobs of some sort, then into to Sydney in the afternoon to beat the traffic congestion of a morning run
bring on day 4

DAY 2
with 2 cups of coffee and a morning of chin wagging and more workshop discussion we set off again, a small detour had to be made to the Mount, {a place I,ve never been,} every one says it's steep which it very much so is, but the amount of space across the top is what got me, they drive at  pace  through a shoe box

that having been done it was back to speed for a meeting with Lou on the edge of Canberra that would accompany me to  for the last 2 hrs to Cooma,

Marks bike was basiclly sorted after several other attemps by people in roughly 15 minutes with the eyes and knowledge of Lou and myself,
always check the simple things ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, like plugs and caps,, caps good, plugs not so good, with a quick trip to the shop the old girl would at least idle, from there it was a case of fine tuning it to a purring kitten,

a couple of coldies and a good yarn and its another 2300 finish as I type this,,

I,m looking forward to Johns bike and the results we can achieve out of his, and also the ride over a hill with more than 2 corners on it  now that time and distance are no longer the priority,

come on down day 3

DAY 1
the run started at 0445,
 cruising velocity was reached 100 metres into the 100 kph zone where it was to sit for the next 13 hrs, except for the 110 kph where velocity was adjusted that little bit,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, extra
towns and villages came and went, state borders were no match,, next thing we're in mudgee making the call to the maker of trophies {and the ambassador of firewood supposedly} to come and  to guide me  to the workshop of wheels spoked and all things self machined, {clever bastard that one}

the Martini out did itself, chewing up the k's with no effort, along with the skins that Bryan had suggested and the air hawk seat, {the fairing is definitly not a Goondoowindi summer choice,} was a bit warm sitting behind it

fuel ranged from 200k for 12.3 ltrs through to 293k for 17.4  depending on heat and velocity

john,  just 2 or 3 will be enough, won,t need much rocking to sleep by the time we're done with yours,

lou mate, I,d love to but time is of the essence and I'll be whistling through about lunch time if not earlier, {leaving Jonesys' 7 ish} and I've no real idea what I'm going to need to do at Marks, so  I,ll have to take a rain check

as for the sparrow/emu thing,,,, they say the bigger they are the harder they fall ;D ;D

Hey Jeff,
Mark turned up and was our lead rider for a VJMC gig that we organised in Cooma earlier this year, gave us a great rundown on the wind turbines he was looking after that we stopped and looked at, and yes he was frustrated about his XS, leaking carbs etc.
On your travels you will be coming through my turf about 120Kms before you get to Cooma, to get to my place you will need to do a 1.8 Km Yes only 1.8km diversion off your scheduled route.
Consider dinner and a bed sorted :) As for that Rum Stuff, It'll make a Sparrow fight an Emu, but if that's you choice, it's all good.

Cheers

Lou

whatever your poison is Paul, don,t need to specially stock the ranch with anything, a couple of rum and colas will ok though
Eddie, I think i,m right for accom, but 3 heads on a motor is better than 2,, it'll be ok, we're not replacing the wiring harness
