No more drafts. Beauty! that'll make the bike much more user friendly during the winter months. I'll be over Bunnings way next Tuesday. I'll pick up a roll then and make an appointment at the Bundy Bike hospital for some outpatient treatment.

Maybe crimp was the wrong word, it is the same as yours, the seal in mine has some minor damage on one corner. I'll get a pic to you over the weekend to see if you want it.

Paul, not sure if mine might be different as it's a Special, but my seal was held in place by the partition, part #14 which requires the whole upper section of the airbox to be dismantled to get it off. It gets sandwiched between the airbox body lip and that plate. No crimp in mine.

I will check out that foam stuff and have a crack at it that way

Mate - prise them off and ceramic coat or, horrors, re-chrome them

Ev I checked out oneI've got here, and I'm thinking Jeffs suggestion is probly the way to go. To get the seal out is likely to damage it. Its held in by some sort of crimping type process at the factory. If I was able to get it out you'd be very unlikely to get it back in.  I'd give you the whole top air box section but the chrome is rooted, perfect if you were going for the rat look.

Ev ....have to tried any adhesives to hold it in place .
Your local hardware store should have self adhesive "closed cell foam" draught stopper that comes in a thin strip roll and is quite cheap . There are 2 types ..the closed cell foam is the one to get.

Yes mate. Disintegrated is a fitting description of its condition. Tried fitting a rubbery foam strip in its place but it keeps getting dislodged and letting raw air in.

It's part #15 in the diagram.

Paul, yes it is the one that seals the top and lower halves of the airbox.

Ev, are you after the "O" ring type seal between the top and bottom air box halves?

Ev...have you got a pic or a numbered schematic to show us what it looks like?
Is it a common seal to all xs1100 s or just your model?

Spotted these gems while looking for an airbox seal for my SF. They're pattern parts, so not genuine, but they are all that can be had. A tad exxy, but what price can you put on something you normally can't get?
CLICK, select which model you want bits for, then scroll down the photo list of available bits

Oh, BTW, it's a UK site so XS1100S refers to the Sport, not the Special

Still haven't had any luck looking for the main airbox body seal. Anyone got a spare one that's intact??
