It looks like the tune up at Wellington didnt do much for improving fuel economy, went for a spin this arvo and went onto reserve at 256km from a sidestand fill. 12.8km/ltr i think thats about 35 mpg.  Looks like I'll be touring and filling up with the Refuel Hourly mob

ran really well
pre tune up I got 291km's to a tank, from a sidestand fill, to completely used up stopped on the side of the road.
So far I've only got about 220-230 kms on the after tune up tank so will be interesting to see how far to reserve

Chrisso,
no plans for front brakes at this stage,

Finally fixed the left tap leak......i think.
1st put new kit through it, plus polished the handle face and the O ring shut off seat. still leaked, in all positions including the new off position grr
2nd put stronger spring from another spare dead tap, still leaked
finally put the new kit through the spare dead tap and tadah no leak.....so far

Next thing is to invent a fuel tap re-seating tool, could give new life to a lot of written off fuel taps I reckon

I'd like to post a few of my pics of the old Barge but with this Photobuckety thing its too hard. ....Do you plan on doing anything with the front brakes or leave them as is?

Thats good mate. Good to see the carbs are still fixable. As I recall back in like 2002? I bought those carbs off Rodney Brison Wreckers at Rydlemere for I think $400..as the diaphrams were shot on the old ones. So they have lasted well. I probably noted that in the bike records. Is the tank still clean inside? I used that Kreem 3 part system. When you repaint tank at least theres a good ...10 layers off paint there lol...I think at one stage I took it back to bare metal. :D.

New float valves and seats in.
Float heights set.
Followed by the leak test, which failed at the fuel supply tee between 1 & 2

Off with No:1 carby for access to the tee.......and my tip for not having to worry about that miniscule ball bearing and spring for the choke detent......the humble nail

And this is the method I've used before to good effect, gas proof thread sealant loctite and tape

Reckon fuel economy is going to improve by the time I'm finished, so far the float valve(s) have leaked, the tee and left fuel tap.
