Look, in all honesty, a straight 40 oil is all these old girls need. We've been using a universal diesel 40 in all our bikes, John Deer and new holland tractors, as well as a 100 series cruiser, rodeo, and a new Dmax, has all the sae specs, even Roothy from MC trader and that 4wd mag uses it in his trucks and older bikes. Buy buy the 20 ltrs and its half the price of all the recommended shit, I mean oil. Your choice.

Gday Horn, I too have been using 4T and its other names mentioned above exclusively, since i got my first XS in 83,  a full rebuild including crank bearings after 170,000 kms showed the plain bearings were virtually unmarked and could have gone back in to service. Good testament in my books

So....reading the blurb......it IS an enhanched synthetic mineral oil....then at the end of the blurb....its not a synthetic oil....a bit of 6 of one...half a dozen of the other...it seems.
Or....the "Claytons" synthetic oil .

I've been using Castrol 4T 15-50 in mine for prob 5 years - excellent
With the fresh rebuild I'm under pressure from my mechanic to swap to a full synthetic Motorex product - Top Speed 4T 15/50......
http://www.motorex.com/index.cfm?oid=1147&lang=en&webtoolDbTemp=eintragDetail&eintragId=154

Still undecided.... haven't heard a compelling reason not to though

This is the one Christian now suggests, I'm using the cheapest mineral at the moment because it keeps spitting it out.

Christian recently changed his recommendation to me. It was Penrite gas or gas 10 brain like a sieve.

Yamaha recommended oil was castrol grand prix, which morphed into castrol farm bike or something similar and now called castrol 4t

No friction modifiers or synthetics.............good old fashioned Dino oil.
20/40 is ok ....name brands are recommended.
Chich...as a help.........general questions  have been covered to death on here.........use the search button tab......enter a keyword or two........and a plethora of info will be at your fingertips.

G'day members

I am green when it comes to XS's but any recommendations please regarding oil.

20/50W?

Castrol GTX, Penzoil, Shell or do I spend the coin for Motul?

Thank you
