Back to the jumping into gear problem, thought id look at the selector mechanism before pulling the motor and going in through the sump.
I found this, but not sure of the significance if any
The 2 notches are misaligned in neutral but line up in 1st. I,d assume these witness marks would be lined up when assembling in neutral?
There is no reference in haynes or clymer manuals to these marks.........any ideas, experience with these?

Hi jumping into gear not out of which problem  and how do the lines line up 2nd ?? Not 100% but I believe later models should have a cut away section in the selector drum face  please explain

Good chat that one steptoe, both thought we'd found the problem until doing a very unblokey thing..............reading the instructions

100%,, should be lined up, but in second gear, a biggie in gear selection issues,
with the lines lined up the claw must help hold the drum as well as the spring on stopper plate at the otherend of the drum

started with the easy electrical job 1st, and got a replacement rear brake switch.....only 87 jobs to go till completion of RH Re-Hab.

There is a "start cct" that switches to the "run cct" when you take your finger off the start button..

Yes I still need pistons

As for the relay, did they come out with an oem relay? If so where is it usually located?
I'm probably wrong here, but I thought it was like start button to solenoid to starter motor. No relay

Just got barn find running beautifully.
I had problems with the start button, or should I say the start relay
Could the after market relay be a Jewry rig for the start relay.
The original is located on the frame next to the - Ve on the battery.
Hard to come by and expensive so far.
"Borrowed" a good relay from the police bike.
It is still in almost found condition with grass growing through the engine and frame.

You will need to go into the gearbox to fix the jumping out of 1st problem.

haven't looked at mine yet  the front of the motor looks scarey enough hopfuly its just a case of tightening the covers down
