I run about 7 pounds air in my forks and love the change it made over no air. I over inflate mine a bit, and if your seals are good it will take this...Then I deflate them by using the pressure gauge. Each time you use it it will give you the pressure and deflate that same amount. The ride and handling greatly improve over a no inflation position. I am a heavy Canadian and I love the way the forks improve with pressure. I think PN just has an issue with any north americans advice. Just cause north america which includes Canada does not mean fat bastards everywhere. Ride it and try it before losing the air/over capabilities these forks offered.

Against advice from PG, I'm keeping the air forks, just not putting any air in them + putting in 40 mm longer standard fork springs and the PO's conduit fork spring extender, which will give me about 15-20 mm preload on the fork cap. If its a crappy ride I'll go back to the PO's setup. After all I've never ridden this thing, so there maybe nothing wrong with it.
God Bless America.

I think the litmus test would be to send an inquiry to the "Fat " astro scientists at NASA to inquire as to how many xs1100 "Air " fork caps are in orbit around planet earth. :D
Or is that just a " forking "dumb ass idea ?

air forks are rubbish, ditch them they're just one big long hassle,
again just another fad that came and went way back when..

front forks you want only a bare minimum off preload on
your springs which means about 5 mm for about 30mm
of drop when your stationary arse hits the seat...

, means easy peasy to unscrew the lids by hand with no drama,
when undoing if the fking things are flying 50 metres into the sky
 your whole setup is wrong,

you buy the proper rate springs to suit your
own weight, oem are just a guess from the factory back in the late 70's,

for example the yanks at xs11. com are all so flabby, unfit and obese, their preloads are all set around 70 tons per square inch, when they unscrew their
lids the fork caps often end up in orbit as space junk

Obviously a cost issue in how they used individual valves on each fork leg.
One single valve with a branch  hose to each fork along with a psi guage would have been a better way of doing it ...something a man with your talents could do in a Wizz.
All would have to be in copper tube or similar.

Thanks Jeff
for the measly 6 psi required and the difficulty measuring I dont think I'll worry about it, info from the UK site says 287 ml of fork oil, still chasing that spring free length?

The preload was catered for via 5 to 15 psi of air on those forks ...hence no spring preload when removing cap.
I seem to recall owners ditching the air thingo...as it was a "dis arse ter" and too hard to balance the psi ...due to the pressure being so low that  losing air when removing the "bicycle pump hose " made for inconsistent measurements.
Shims or coins were then used to preload springs to your desire .
One step forwards and 2 steps back on that design I thunk.

How much oil do you put in the RH leading axle type forks? I've got info for standard forks but nothing for the re-hab forks.
Also, any info on fork spring free length. When i took the fork cap off to get the spring out there was no preload on the spring. The cap just came off finger tight with no spring trying to push the cap off..........is my explanation clear as mud?
