So far I've only got the clutch off and already found 2 washer/spacers missing from the oil pump idler sprocket mounted on the end of the selector shaft, man, this is going to be fun
my mechanic had a bit of a F.U. and broke a piece off the clutch pressure plate  :(

listening to my 80's sansui stereo this arvo while comparing the 2 gearbox's I might have stumbled across the cause of jumping into gear? or I might be looking at the "2nd gear washer swap fix" not having seen or done the washer fix I dont know wether this is it or not?
But any way, the gear with yellow arrow is completely rigid on the shaft, while spare comparison motor has some sideways/axial float on the shaft
and the washer/spacer with the red arrow is not there on the spare motor
what say you lot?

ok, now I've got 2 motors up on the bench to compare ease/difficulty of gear selection by turning the selector drum by hand, some have said that it should be too "tight" to turn by hand. but both my motors i can select gears by turning the selector drum with the detent wheel without too much difficulty.
So I'm just wondering if someone else has a motor up on the bench that could do the same thing and let me know if they can run through the gears by hand also?

turn by the pointed at detent wheel

Planning to get the second motor up on the bench with sump off and do a comparison.............but, at the moment bench space is reserved for spoked wheel work, expecting them to arrive any day now, but i'll save that for the spoked wheel thread.

i,d have thought that,s a bit loose, spring maybe broken, might have to take a cover off the other bike and compare
might have found the problem

havent taken them out, but was able to get a tool in there and work the pin #13 up and down to establish there is good spring pressure,
I can turn the drum by hand using star wheel #11 is that too loose or should it be much too tight to turn by hand?
looks like I'd have to split the cases to get bolt #15 out

Yes to all the above, just want to clarify what you mean, " do the selector forks have the locators on them"
