Well, I've been in touch with Mal and as expected the 2 spacers with question marks are not supposed to be there, but where Mal's knowledge really came to the fore was he immediately spotted my drawing was for an "E" gearbox which has a different width bearing #31 to the RH/G gearbox. The RH has the lesser narrow bearing then throws in some 3mm spacers to makeup the shortfall (sorry Lou) but then there is another twist, my box has the wider better E bearing with no need for the extra spacers that go between bolt #32 and bearing #31
So, the short story is I can put it back together without the "?" washers and should be all good.........but first I have to rip the top end off for the primary chain transplant. Read as more potential for worms to get out of the can.

i swapped round the washer to tighten 2nd gear,  also threw
 1st and 2nd gear (4 cogs)to a gear-machinist to undercut the slots\dogs,
they angle them to lock in under power, original slots being dead-flat, the yamaha factory couldn't be arsed with that sort of stuff.
boosted power and over-tall gearing (eg chaindrive with 14x38 sprockets and 17" radials - 3000 revs at 100 kph) anything near full throttle turns stock 1st and 2nd gear cogs to a rounded clattering mess..

also skimmed that second gear washer half a mm thinner,  if
only accessing it all from the sump it's only leaving .0032 of
a gnats wing thickness to get the f**&n shaft back in though.. can be
done usually only if wind blows from nw direction while standing on one
leg, also from sump basically impossible to squeeze the kick-start shaft in
with it..  (without some tricky surgery)

Nice work, Sherlock! Those extra spacers won't be helping anything line up properly in there.
How are the engagement dogs? Are they in original shape, or has someone been at them?

well, got down to the nitty gritty today and found a couple of extras?
see comparison of the xs parts book and what i got Items 31 & 30 were still in the cases when i took photo
Going to contact Mal and see if he thinks this could cause jumping into gear?
regardless I'll be re-assembling without the extras

Heya Jeff,

I also noticed the sound system, your comment and Vid is spot on.

However, your comment about the troublesome RH and spending time doing important things, that's exactly what he is doing getting his priorities right and getting the RH sorted, it's now getting the better of the Superior Standard.  ;)

Jonesy...i think its about time you chucked this troublesome RH and spent your valuable time on more important things....like going for a ride on the Superior Standard .
