hmm........shooting flames, isnt that from losing spark and then getting it back and it ignites the juices in the exhaust pipe?
but then 3 and 4 aren't common to anything sparkling! that goes back to the kinked fuel line we found for 3 & 4.
Only suggestion at this stage is to re-do the fuel lines like OEM as we discussed on the day......left tap to 3-4, right tap to 1-2.
Current set up of left to 1-2 and right to 3-4 is prone to kinking fuel lines.

the party was short lived
fired it up to got to work yesterday  pop pop  running on 2 and shooting flames
so I drained the tank  swapped the right fuel tap out  still running on 1,2   so the fuel tap was gutted cleaned  did the blow suck test  all good   fired it up still the same  last hope  jiggled the bunch of cables on the left  the engine note changed momentarely  then back to a chug    so I'm under the illusion the fault is in the loom  and I'm sure I heard a sound similar to something arcing out   tick tick tick or maybe about to go bang   ;(

I honestly thought with all the changes made to the outfit at the rally in one go it was going to be nigh impossible to trouble shoot. but with many sets of eyes looking all over, several small things were spotted that added up to one big problem...she no go round mate!
With Hen the main tool twirler, Tim the tea lady/tool man, Bryan the minister for can do/the ideas man (he had both hats on for this job)and me just along for the ride it was all sorted in a few hours.
Christian, you've done it again. Thanks for the forum that makes these sorts of things happen.

Well the outfit is going once again even though it needs a bit more tender loving care by its owner :)
And a big thanks to the 2 mystery helpers  :o
So at the end of the day I would like to remind some  of us That you must always use the RIGHT type of hose :'( if it is for fuel use fuel hose if vacuum use vacuum hose.
Use your eyes look at things read your manuals understand ask questions.
Also Yes it is great to be handy and be able to work on your bike but think about what you are doing and talk to people don't just assume because it makes an ass out u and me.
Routine Maintenance is what it's all about.
Our Bike's are old they need a bit of T L C. 8)
Bikes today are made for a price ours where made to last 8)
one last thing A big Thanks to Christian for setting up the Forum so we can all HELP each other. :D

Hi all
the A team arrived took a look thought it over and proceded to solve the problems
a surprise visit by Jonesy and Bryan ,  it turned out my original suspicion of a dodgey connection was right  but with futher investigations we also found  a fuel supply problem  so after some fiddling about and the application of a hotter brand of chilli sauce to said carbs  the XS was firing   took it for a run and filled the tank still had some residule popping I am putting that down to the new diaphrams bedding in , the carbs had a quick tune  after the run to the servo the idle had to be backed off a touch so il run it round for a week and see if it settles down
so if you have a problem you cant solve and if you can find them call the XS A team

I appreciate all the help received  with the bike and it goes to show the bonds of the XS group  Thank you all
Tim  :)

Remember electricity is made out of smoke. If you join the wrong wires the smoke will get out and it won't work anymore. Smoke can't get through water so everything has to be dry. It all stands to reason really. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The only thing I can suggest is that after the downpour in our makeshift bush garage water has mixed with the residue on (some) connections causing no jibbers to flow.

Disconnect the blocks and clean the connections one at a time.

If you have no joy I have another loom here that I could send up??????????
